Take the cover plate off the top of the headstock, undo the layshaft bearing blocks from the aluminium frame. Slide the layshaft out of the belt - do not undo the belt.

pull the belt up through the headstock and remove a link from the top- it may be two with that ammount of slack.

Pull the belt down and thread the layshaft through - do not forget the endles V belt too - put the belts on the pulleys.

lever the bearing blocks onto the frame work , spin the headshaft to check.

put the bolts back into the bearing blocks and tighten up, adjust tension of lower belt.

I find doing it this way a lot easier than struggling with the belt in the cabinet.

I took one link out and struggled to get it back on. Don't think i could have joined them if i took another link out. Will see how it goes now and follow these steps if i need to take another one out in the future.

You're going to get amplified sound with it a) being inside what is effectively a cubed sounding board, and b) being 'hard mounted' to the steel bearers - this will cause extra resonance through the whole frame.

There is always an alternative ...... I have these and they're very good

The list never stops i've ordered a few cheap spanners and keys so i can keep them on the lathe.

I need the coolant pipe and coolant, people recommend rocol but can only find it in 5l. I went to a local place they said it was soluble cutting fluid but the instructions seemed to suggest it was not reusable.

I have some cutting fluid I was given by a mate - he told me it's mixed with water [seemed unlikely to me] and turns milky white. He was right and it does work. I could decant some for you but getting it to you could be problematical as the carriers won't carry liquids.

Unless you have a UK address which could work, PM me if so?

With regard to cutting tools , the best by far of all the stuff I have bought from Chronos and others over the years is "The Diamond Tool Holder" by eccentricengineering.co.au They have a Uk agent. They use hhs tool steel for cutting so it is very cheap to use. i sharpen them on a jig I made to sit under a Dremmel diamond disc held in the mill. The finish you can get is amazing. I think there are some videos on Youtube.

Should i replace all the piping or just get something to fit the pipe thats in the pic? Any links to what i should get would be appreciated.

Got the splash guard on.

A couple of bits left over, any ideas where these are from?

Something missing here.

The last switch was for the chuck guard so there is not one to stop the top slide hitting the chuck.

Couple of bolts short here.

Thank you i would never have noticed that.

The other nut must be from the cover for the cut off switches junction box i used another i had laying about.

How do you get something out of the tail stock?

you wind the barral all the way back and the "item" should pop out. I have a dead centre that doesn't come out easily and I use a pair of vice grips to twist it out.

It does not pop out will have to try the vice grips.

I have one revolving center doesnt pop out when wound right back, i just put an m10 nut in first. It now pops out . So need to build it up a bit, and make it a bit longer

Just drill and tap the end and fit a cap screw.

The dead centre pops out the live centre does not the m10 nut works perfectly .
