f/j
. i mentioned a while ago the use of large gaps on tig roots, these pics will show the closure from 4mm gap, pipe 8 inch, filler 2.5 amps 120, f/j
the reality is you need to learn to deal with anything that turns up, but i would recommend any young lad to weld 5 6 and 2g every chance he gets. this spool turned out a little awkward so i did one branch 6g tig root and filler, when i finished i just did the other 5g
.
That bottom one looks like it took a few passes F/J?
Nice work again mate.
I know it's slightly cheeky to ask but any chance you could give us a few of your parameters with your pics? Rod type, brand, size, amps etc. I'm trying to use my MMA kit a bit more rather than just use the mig and it's nice to have something to work towards, like welds as nice as yours.
I'm dying to post a pic of my first 'peeler'![]()
Nice job again F/J..........when I see stuff like that it makes me want to get stuck in and weld again. (Sounds kinda sad I know) but I used to love tig rooting pipes, especially in position,![]()

Up until 9 yrs ago I used to be a coded welder for Babcocks, on Powerstations/Nuclear/Pharmaceutical/Petrochem/ Semi Conductor etc, so I have a fair idea of whats involved
I just sometimes miss getting 'stuck' into a nice tig root and mma fill & cap.........I know that the novelty value wouldn't last more than 1 pipe, before I remembered why I got off the tools in the first place![]()

Nice one Runnach! It would be good to just set the machine up using similar parameters and see what the result is. I doubt I'd be the only one to try too jusdging by the amount of interest this thread has generated.

runnach the eye of a teacher
im sure you,ll forgive me that one considering it probably blinded me. wooz its 4 runs just to keep it uniform with the surrounding weaves. im sorry if i haven,t posted details i was worried about repeating myself, this lifting slag thing is only a novelty try this first, angle iron on the flat,1/8 rod 115 120 amps 3 runs the rod i used was fox sum but any 13 should work.Best to get "stuck" into a Subway sannie matt parked up in some forlorn layby. X babbies eh, you ever visit Cockenzie on a shut down? Now that is the pitts!!
You will be pleased to note you have passed the sanity test................couch sent back to storage!![]()

It was horrible, I hated every minute of it.
