I think it's a bit more involved than just grinding out the crack and welding he repair section on top.
I am talking with a chap at the moment about repairing one, both sides on his have cracked, Audi have quoted him £22.5k to repair.
Had a quick look at the invoice and it talks about removing the windscreen and hire of a jig amongst many other things...
Make sure you can get the parts as well as they can't be retailed through a dealer, only to approved Audi repair centers (officially)
What car is it?The car is 10yrs old I expect so I don't know if that's going to be classed as a manufacturing defect?
They do supply a repair part & procedure plus the repair parts are fitted as standard on later cars so it's obviously a problem they know about.
The quote also mentioned some parts that are not fitted to his car so it's obviously a cut-and-paste from them having done the same job before!
It is an all-aluminium supercar though.
If it was owned by a racing team or it was an airplane it would have been classed as out of life expectancy by now and scrapped.
He has written to Audi to see if there is any goodwill available so I'm not really sure what we are going to do with it yet.
