Ive had a weihrauch hw80 in .22 for many years its been a superb rabbit gun particulary at night with a lamp attached i have a cheapish 4x40 scope fitted and have had no problem with that either.
If i were clearing an area like that i would use my quickset longnet at night there are some mega hauls to be had on a spot thats riddled with rabbits with the right weather conditions prevailing takes a wee bit of practise but you can dent a big population with a few good sets.
A good book to buy is longnetting by Harold wyman he was an old school master with a traditional net much easier with a quick set though

If a cylinder has been failed for diving then it's failed for any use and should be rendered unusable.

I think the oxygen is needed after he pumps it up, dive bottles have a test year, they expire, but try finding someone to fill an expired bottle.

They've gone up in price significantly but I've always been a fan of Air Arms. Used to have an S410 Carbine then had an FAC S410 Xtra. Sold that as I wasn't using it and now I've moved really regretting it.

With lockdown variations are not being processed but once I can I think I'm going to go back to an FAC level Air Arms. Probably in 22 for the feathery stuff but at 35+ ftlbs it matters little at 50 yards.

My eldest son is over run with rabbits and is wanting to buy an air rifle to help deal with them, What are the best suggested rifles at not too great a cost, .177' or .22" etc, any particular makes better than the rest.? Plus maybe a decent scope if needed

I know dive bottles have a test year, there's two under my bench ATM. It used to be 2 years visual and 4 years hydrostatic. It's now 2.5 years visual, 5 years hydrostatic. If you have your own compressor you can fill your own bottles even if they're out of test. At your own risk of course.

The oxygen was for inhaling, they take some pumping, and if you’re shooting a lot, thats a lot of time and effort. It soon becomes a chore.

I used to use an Original 45 .177 for field work. I could comfortably take rabbits at 40yds plus. For the last 30yrs I’ve owned a Theoben Mk2 Rapid with both barrels. I use an ex diving bottle. Long since out of code, a mate fills it with an exarmy High pressure breathing tank compressor setup, he has all the hydro test gear

Air rifle fine for rabbits at garden ranges and pretty safe.

Iv been shot with a .177 and still have the scar from the .22 at the age of 17 when my idiot friend accidentally shot me in the leg it never fully broke the skin but it did hurt

Lad I used to work with trapped a badger in a cage trap. Decided to try to off it with a cheapo air rifle. When that didn’t work he decided the lurcher will take a rabbit, surely it’ll do a badger?

The badger won by quite a large margin

Problem you have using an airgun is the small area you have to control, they will very quickly become wise to your presence, the brave ones will even know if you have a gun with you, I kid you not. So that means lamping or getting up for sunrise, even then you’ll be lucky to shot more than a couple a day after a few weeks.
