Well, it seems to do what it should do.

And hasn't short circuited or gone to earth.

In pulling it out, could there be something which was shorting it out?

Or your mcbs?

I mean in the tank full of oil.

I have an oxford oil cooled and that always trips the breaker when I first power up, esp if it’s been sat a while (which it usually does...). If I reset it it will power up and weld just fine - I assume it’s the inrush current to the transformer.

Is yours tripping constantly, or does it work after a reset?

Ok so a few months back I was welding everything grand. Went to move the welder and switch it back in then tripped. I thought it may be the b type mcb changed that for a c type and still the same

Its tripping constantly, it is, I would say 3/4 full of of oil.

Decant / pour out the oil.

Might be something in the bottom?

Which has fallen on to the electrics.

Yeah sorry I should have read your first post correctly!

3/4 full is probably about right as it will be full when the transformer is lowered in. It all appears to be ok, have you tried anything else (Preferably something that takes a lot of power eg a heater) in the same socket to see if it’s an issue with the fixed wiring (unlikely I know but fairly easy to do).

If decanting the oil take care as it’s pretty nasty stuff (I’m sure it’s been said already I’ve only skim read the posts above...)

Will drain the oil, I dont think its the mcb, when I had the old one in it would go when I switched on the welder. If I left the welder on and reset the mcb it would work but this is different. No matter what way I do b it now it wont stay on

Quite a few of my welders trip the mcbs, sometimes I reset them, two, three times...

I have a 12v oil pump for servicing cars, I will use that to decant the oil

I have reset it about 10-20 times in a row and it still does it. Previously 2-3 times would do it

I stick the old mcb back in.

If all it does is trip, there's clearly a problem.

The checks seem to indicate no faults.

So an object which has fallen off into the guts, and since fallen out?

Or power supply. Ie MCBs
