Pickhill oil cooled

Hi guys,
I'm new here......I have a pickhill oil cooled which is tripping the mcb in the shed. It was working ok for years, tripped mcb but once pushed back up it ran fine.
I have change the mcb to a c32 but this has still not solved it.
Is the welder toast?

it can be a mixture of a few things but all depends on whats inside of it and what the problem is

be careful with the oil its not good to get it on you

but it does mean its a top off to investigate the problem and there heavy to do so

thats not bad looking inside of it seen much worse before now

Voltmeter, between phase and neutral.

Set to continuity.

Turn it through all the possitions.

If you're constantly getting one it's shorted out.

Check earth to live /neutral too.

Phase = live.

Neutral to live and twiddle knob.

Hang on, with the old mcb, it tripped, you reset it and welded.

With new one, it just trips?

Neutral to live I have continuity

Attach voltmeter to the plug. Live neutral.

All 1's

Try measuring the resistance.

If there's no resistance, something's shorted out.

Don't discount plug and cable.

Ok so a few months back I was welding everything grand. Went to move the welder and switch it back in then tripped. I thought it may be the b type mcb changed that for a c type and still the same

Have you pulled the plug apart and checked inside?

Could be the cable?

Start simple.

Rule out the male plug.

Then disconnect the cable from the welder.

Check the cable.

Then recheck the welder on resistance live to neutral whilst twiddling knob.

Tested plug for continuity on each cable all good
