I am a Lidl fanboy but they seem to have lots of empty shelves of late, light on tinned goods, no dog food for 3 weeks so i traveled the extra mile and went to Aldi, no probs, all shelves fully stocked, i spose it pays to shop around

Our Aldi has a lot of empty sections sporadically.
But they had 25kg bags of flour during the first lockdown when we queued across carparks etc.
Since then I have not seen those large bags.

I learnt recently that it's potentially detrimental to the oil (and you) to cook with olive oil. Something about it breaking down with temperature. So best left for salads or drizzling once cooked.

It has one of the lowest smoke points. Bung olive in one pan, sunflower in another and rapeseed in a third and turn them on high at the same time and they will smoke in that order. Rapeseed and sunflower are close and a while after olive oil. Olive oil is ok to cook with if you arent frying something hard but it is better used cold as you say.

(lucky I had a stock of cooking oils for the land rover, but they were all left over when I took it off the road for a chassis change...!)

That's because all the restaurants were closed. The reason nobody could get flour was because most flour is sold in big bags to caterers. Suddenly, demand for 1kg bags soared while everyone was at home wanting to bake bread, there was no demand for the normal big bags and they couldn't get flour packed in small bags quick enough.

Yes it was strange....but as soon as people realised you did not need to stockpile they stopped buying them.

Since learnt that that may well be horse manure. Olive oil is great for roasting stuff and gentle frying but maybe not smoking hot frying. Guess it depends what you read.

Everything is expensive now....I really want to meet the guy who works out the rates of inflation...I saw a PPB earlier where a liar was just telling lie after lie after lie.

It's insane how they can get away with it.
