Talking of youngsters, couple of weeks back I went to a family run aerospace buisness, they make all sorts of luxury tittle tattle for private jets and are a very well respected manufacturer, anyway for years they've known the skills they need are hard to come by so they set up a small in house training academy and take on around 15 apprentices every year. All have a gauranteed job at the end. On the day of my visit was the first day of the new intake, 6 DIDNT bother to turn up, didn't even have the decency to phone in up front so someone else could have had a chance

There is something of a financial barrier for young people buying old Fords these days so you might not see many in your circles. It's like saying they aren't intererested in buying houses these days.

I'm really impressed by the young people I come across. I have a graduate at the moment who is becoming an excellent engineer.

Nobody starts with an old ford as they are expensive but there are many much cheaper cars to start with so I can't see where your comment holds water to be honest

Well my replacement main leaves for my front springs arrived from jones. Springs today, only took them 3 days, good company to deal with. They had to be shortened 3'' at the front to bring the shackle inside the front panel, they also made me up a couple of extra intermediate leaves so I can fine tune the front springs

The workshop is now sheeted up ready to paint the chassis, as usual got let down by a mate so my old mate Allan has stepped forward and took a day off on Tuesday to paint it for me, thanks Allan.
funny how mates always turn up when your doing something for them !!! One for the memory bank I think

I don't think anyone can question the standard here, they are fantastic, even the attention to detail with the makeshift spraybooth.

I guess the biggest struggle is staying motivated when things are going well.

With regard to youngsters today I think there are several factors, schools don't have the facilities they had when I was at school in the 80s. Many young people aren't interested and I think a large portion of that is the fact that many people have no desire to make/build things so the kids are not likely to gain interest if they never see anyone else doing it.

My kids are always building stuff and the stuff they do at school is not really going to create to much engineering desire in my opion. I think the likes of Colin Furze and Diresta on Youtube get my kids excited about building stuff more than anything they do at school

Weird thing is Colin Furze was more driven because he dad would never allow him into the workshop.

It seems to be the credit card nowadays that they all live on, they can't afford an old ford though

Clearance time - the time it takes to clear a spray booth (usually done with a smoke generator) of all the smoke; as a representation of how long to clear the booth of paint fumes, this is normally marked on commercial spray booths.

Langy, you made a really tidy job of masking off your garage, you could do with some extraction though, a charcoal mask wouldn't give you protection mate. (unless you are got an airfed mask?)

I have an extractor in the wall and air fed mask and 2 x 14cfm compressors outside bud

That's a good level of safety to use when spraying.

Allan came over this morning and after a couple of coats of black epoxy it was left to cure for 90 mins and then straight on with the black tinted Raptor, undoubtably not everyone will like this finish but I wanted a hard wearing practical finish and this is certainly that !!! Plus you can see very little of it once fitted

Picked up an original Hurst Lightening Rods shifter, which may confuse Sue when she drives it !!!

I think it would confuse most folk! I quite like the Raptor finish in a painted stone chip kind of way, is it easier or better lasting than stone chip with 2K on top?

It's certainly much tougher than regular 2k, and that's pretty tough wearing, it's a 2k stone chip basically, I kinda like it as it looks a bit more industrial than shiny 2K which I didn't want, some people will struggle to understand the look I'm trying to achieve I think.
