New rules for MOT from today-20.05.18

I know I can read the rules, but for an older diesel (I don’t know, a 16 year old Disco Td5 for example) with no egr or cat that passes emissions is that ok?

Mine has just passed with both gone but it went through on the old test, Friday before they changed.....

I think from previous pictures yours is a Facelift model so 15P/EU3 engine and would have DPF and EGR from the factory, I think from memory the 10P didn't have DPF but did have EGR but could have had both. The new MOT rules mean they need to be present at the time of testing so next year.....

Is there going to be an increase in cost of S/H DPF/EGR's for TD5 Discos as everyone takes them off and bins them

[/QUOTE] 4 days after going live the option to fail pre 2008 diesels on the manufacturers plate limit has gone from the failure items list despite still being in the testing manual . Most likely the massive jump in diesel emission failures was a bit much for Dvsa. [/QUOTE]

No dpf on any D2, they were expecting the Euro standards (can’t remember which numbers) to be stricter so wasn’t needed when the specs were finalised

Can’t see the egr delete under the engine cover and looking at the figures above it was well within spec this time, without even a cat on

So what did he do in the end?

Even if you say OK to a garage, you fix it, what if the part isn't in stock etc,....if it's a small garage with limited space, surely it's not in their interest to keep it there either??

Especially with some thing like a seat belt. Many people would fit a second hand one. Most garages wont.

I kinda feel sorry for him but at the same time anyone with a driving license should either use a garage they trust or have a basic understanding of the rules of a MOT, in my experience the garages you can trust are the ones that charge full price for a MOT test.

I've known people who go to the garages that offer a discounted MOT only for their car to fail the test, usually when they say they know a mechanic friend who will fix it for them the list of fail items suddenly gets shorter, strange that

Whether by a rope or solid bar, does either method actually make it legal??

@doubleboost are you sure a spec frame is ok I thought for a car to be pulled on a specframe it needs to be taxed tested and insured because some if not all of its wheels are on the road I don't mean to be picky but it's something that i did a lot of reserch in to at one time I may be wrong and things may of changed since then

The way I thought this worked was if its being towed it is a trailer and needs to abide the rules on trailers and that includes if over 750kg needs working brakes operating on all wheels in contact with the ground. But if I am wrong someone will tell me!

I know that if towing a car behind a dormabile that it needs to be taxed tested have full road lighting and if over 750 Kg needs a way of operating the brakes as the towing vehicle brakes

I fitted a S/H centre seat belt to Mrs Robo's Pug 308 after our puppy chewed it, took me a good hour of sweating and swearing on a hot day, passed the MOT with an advisory "unable to check centre seat belt due to seat covers fitted"
