In one of the earlier pics you saw a 2 welding magnets holding a piece of steel (new bottom lip ) , out with the magic steel welding wand .... first bit of overhead lie on your back legs over welder welding I’ve done in 20 years and weld into place
Guess which numpty tried to fill a few pin holes without the gas on “as homer would say DOH !! “ so grind it back down , Re weld them up and grind it all down again
Some of the new panels I collected today , and some never left moss .
Incoming drivers side / rear
boot floor
Castle rail , inner membrane , inner sill , jack point and strengthener
Sebring rear valance
The over wing / under rear window section (23 +vat each got both sides , a sheet of steel to fab them both would cost me 40 ???? )
New centre X member complete
Rejected !
Outer sill
Door hinge post (b pillar)
Leg splash box complete
Thats NOT what I ordered .... that’s the better part of 300 quid individually (and was supplied as such ) as someone already pointed out the whole lot comes as one panel from BMH , for around 230 factory welded as I found out .
Not one avalailable sir .... wonder what the lead time is on that !!!!
Emailed a different firm to who MG owners club use for fibre glass parts (figuring they all fit as badly as each other ) and enquiried if no receipts involved , how much for these .....
That is fine. Unfortunately we don’t have the full rear wings we only have the Sebring arches.
Prices(excluding R/W + Sebring arch):
1 x pair of doors @ £300
1 x MGC bonnet @ £140
1 x MGB tailgate @ £110
Total - £550
We will give you a discount of 50 , so 500 in total .
Rear arches are 80 quid a pair if you require them .
Regards
What I can bolt on won’t rust , I only enquiried about the tailgate for a laugh as there’s nothing wrong with mine ...
But compared to 1 original MGB drivers wing on offer in moss last time I was in for 455+vat ... I asked how much off offer ... 600 and odd , I didn’t leave a finger print on it , that’s a bargain
1 door new heritage is 400 odd + vat and skins about 100 each
The panels are made to order and not stocked (not a problem as I’m not ready for them ) so ordered and collected today in a 300 miles round trip (I wanted to make sure I got them undamaged ) and had a chat wheeler dealers style (with me NOT being mike Brewer ) lol .
Met a grandfather/grandson team and I hope they do really well . Here what I collected
All I have done so far really nick is to open my usually welded tight wallet a bit , looked round the web at what’s viable financially with a longer game plan in mind . I know some FG are horrible fits (the Sebring front wings that MGOC use and I acquired come from Honeybourne Mouldings ) and are horrendous compared to what I’ve just got in terms of quality and fit . (I haven’t tried the doors for fit yet as I’m still fighting Satan’s screws on the doors !)
Once I priced up a new front wing out of moss at 600 odd plus vat I decided there and then concours was not happening ! lol
Once I do get all the bolt on FG parts fitted if the chassis ever rots away and out completely then it’s a case of new preowned shell bolt off and on and go again
The weldathon has yet to start with sills ect all I’ve done is cut out rot I’m yet to rebuild in earnest so you give me too much credit (so far anyway )
Fair point Malc. I suppose in all honesty, the reason it's taking me so long to reassemble the yellow peril is that every nut, bolt and bracket looks out of place against the newly painted shell unless you take the time to replace or paint the offending items. That's just me and my OCD though!
However, I did manoeuvre the engine / gearbox assembly into position yesterday ready to install, so that's quite a big milestone. The rear axle is already in and I've rebuilt the front suspension ready to follow the engine.......
By the way, someone has a Sebring kit for sale on a Facebook MGB group. There might be something of interest for your project.
I’m in talks with the people I got the bonnet off ect for other bits that either they are preparing mounds for are or are in the pipeline , the quality over MGOC official spares is night and day so I’m holding out .
I may have a Sebring official MGOC front kit to sell myself if things pan out .
I’ve requested super heavy duty front wings (as I said to them , the wings from MGOC I could shoot a pea at under wing and get a stone chip thru into the paint )
The switch on the right hand side of your dash is where the overdrive switch was located on MK1 cars. So on yours, that area of the panel should have nothing there at all.
However, the o/d switch on your car (assuming it has o/d ) is located within the gear knob, which is known for malfunctioning and shorting out. It's not unreasonable to suggest that a previous owner has relocated it to the right hand side of your dash and 'adjusted' the wiring to suit. Are there any wires in place? Are they 'live'? Just trace them back......
Concerning the green looking panel next to the hrw switch, this is a space for rear fog lamp switch, if you decide to fit them.
