At 65mm too short the adjusting screws would not have been locating it correctly, it would have been floating and have a tendancy to jam when moving the slide forwards.
Seller came back to me he will post to me at no extra charge. Can't one of us bid and send it onto you?
Aye, it did go tight a few times. Surprised at Richard Lord who rebuilt it.At 65mm too short the adjusting screws would not have been locating it correctly, it would have been floating and have a tendancy to jam when moving the slide forwards.

Not sure how could have adjusted it, he had messaged me in relation to it being avertised: "The cross & compound slide gib strips are adjusted correctly so no lateral play whilst sliding smoothly. The cross slide nut / screw were replaced and adjusted correctly there is minimal backlash"There's no work done on that cross slide. I bet he never had it apart.

Forgot yours had taper turningAbout 3days as it was pretty out of shape, had to hand file a chunk to start.
Also I bought a biax. Requires reference square and a straight edge.

Square and straightedge are items from @pressbrake1

Aye, lies and ballcocksLies
yes you have to scrap the gib. it will never fit as standardOk tried fitting the gib and it is not going fully home, sits just ove half an inch proud of the crosslide face when it starts to get stiff to move, so a good length away from fitting the cross slide adjusting screw stops.
Am guessing I need to scrape the gib like on:
Though does that mean I would needto scrape the dovetail first? I have never tried scraping before and feel a little apprehensive.
Thanks folks.

Cheers @Pete. really kind offer, will see what my dad has, though I think his scrapers were all for scraping bushes.Great, then you can scrape your cross slide and gib. If you want to borrow a scraper I'll send you one to use and a lapping disc to sharpen it. At half an inch out your 50:1 taper (probably) gib needs about 8-10 thou taken off but if you have the cross slide off already why not scrape it in a bit and improve the machine? At least run some checks to see if the cross slide is worn enough to warrant some work.
