Lathe delivery costs?

@fizzy doesn't seem to have capacity to load/ unload (his post from 2020); Landylift could be good, I may contact him. Seeing an M300 in the pic above reminded me, I have a friend who's a tree surgeon and mills wood on a large scale, and he has various transport kit, I might ask him if he'd be interested in taking a day off and coming with me to collect.

But what I'm looking for in this thread is some sense of mileage rates/ loading and unloading rates, not a quote - I'm working on the assumption that access will be easy; if it's on the third floor of a loft conversion with spiral staircase, I won't be buying it.

I hired a trailer, twin axle suitable weight, Volvo estate, admittedly got it loaded, came off with a block and tackle, then scaff pôles.

1.4 tons.

Just be mindful that not all M300 have holes for lifting eyes mine does not so we had to sling under the corners of the tray. (long slings)
I don;t think anyone is going to be able to direct you to a per mile rate.
I know landy lift an others try and organise loads so they are not doing mega empty miles ..but they price accordingly

I would also avoid any idea of splitting the lathe of the base. You can do it but getting it all set back is not easy or for the faint hearted..
They are set on the base at the factory

That's worth knowing, you can be sure I'd have wanted to separate them to keep centre of gravity low, assuming we go to collect.

Unfortunately a mileage rate is a "how long is piece of string" question. Rates are very variable, and depends greatly on the distance. The more miles, the less the price per mile.

The cost is going to be more in the loading and placing.

I had my 7.5 ton truck low loaded on a proper big artic 2 years ago £70 an hour.

£110 per hour is about right for a decent crane lorry these days, may do better on a return load.

That was a bargain! Not many could do that price.

Bob is probably right on with £110/hr being more normal for a good hiab outfit.

Beauty of a M300 is that it can be done by a small guy with sub-3.5t vehicle/trailers. If you have a forklift either end, life is very easy and cheap. Or you come up with some other inventive method of loading.
600-700kg isn't difficult at all.

Friend in Scotland moved a Bridgeport from North Wales to Scotland with a car trailer a DIY built gantry crane (could be disassembled for transport). Mind you this is a chap who has 120mm plate in his scrap pile...

I found this guide for couriers etc online, which is of some help ( https://getcircuit.com/route-planner/blog/how-much-to-charge-per-mile-for-delivery ), prices plus 50% apparently. So a medium wheelbase truck or trailer might be about £75 / hour, covering about 60 miles on a motorway. Then there's loading and unloading, guess it's best to find someone selling with a fork lift and the lathe on a pallet.

I've learnt lots from this thread. Anything far away will cost £Lots + VAT to deliver; the one I've been looking at in particular has no means of putting it on a pallet nor loading onto a truck/ trailer, so that'll be £lots more. So, we're now going to limit the search to far more local, meaning delivery will be considerably less and there's a fair chance we could go collect ourselves. In the meantime, we'll carry on enjoying our lovely Myford!

If you really like the machine, try putting ALL the details into Shiply.com. Couriers and carriers will quote for the job. Most will be no good, but might turn up something worthwhile ?

The good thing about this forum, is that there are so many people from all walks of life, with such diverse interests, that you can get a decent answer on just about any subject !

...picked my M300 in a tail lift rated at 500kg .............had to take a few bits off and tighten the sphincter during the offload but its doable. Take another pair of hands with you though, the bloke who I bought mine off was useless so ended up struggling myself.
