Just a quickie to say a big thank-you to @indy4x for his efforts today, incredibly kind to have worked so hard to help us get the lathe home. This should serve my lad well enough throughout his career. Now the fiddling to get it working right can begin... :-)
We've been making some chips today, really like how smooth it is to work with so far.
We want to do an oil change on the head and gearbox but not sure which oil to use and how much to get. Apparently the early Mk1s need a thicker oil in the headstock so I'm thinking we go with iso 68 in both. For some reason I can't find the quantity required in each in the manual or elsewhere, but it looks like 5L might do both?
We've got more photos but I'll post those when we've done some tidying up. I was planning to take the old paint back and repaint it, but the lad really likes the layers of paint on it, so we're keeping the '60-year-old' look but cleaning up the machined metal a bit. I'll definitely post more pics soon :-)
Yer tis - we had to move our little mill out of the garage to fit it in, but it's there now and we're very happy! We need to level it up and all that but it seems to be working great, thread cutting gears all good and running smoothly. It has the four-jaw chuck on in the pic, we're just astonished at the size/ weight of it compared to the Myford. Happy bunnies :-)
