I seem to remember there's also a screw and lock nut that governs how far the selector for reverse can move. Could be that needs adjustment after wear on the end.
hmm I don't think so at least not on the out side of the gearbox, there is the reverse light switch on some series boxes just the late 3s though if no one has fitted it aftermarket, but the little bolt in the side can easily wear and let the lever go an extra 1/2" to 1"ish i recently changed my gearbox pretty sure there is no movement adjuster thing, most likely just a wobbly lever assuming the heater/dash is all standard and its not just that something has been put in the way haha
Forgot about this thread, found it cleaning up the subscriptions... The truck did get finished and pressed into daily use, which it did without fault. Not a single problem.
Made a 2a grille by cutting & modding a S3 one, canvas was old genuine ex-mil. Got some mil headlights but never fettled & fitted them.
After a few months I felt the need to build again so reluctantly had to sell him for space and funds. He went to an ex-para who may well have been brought in to land in Cyprus by my Dad who was ATC when our man was deployed there... We swapped a few stories about the war (I was a kid when it sparked off).
He collected the truck and took in a few counties seeing people, then drove over to Sweden where he lives. It's now re-registered and just passed the annual test with just a brake balance adjustment needed. Pleased it hasn't let him down.
So just to end it off properly here's a pic as I had it, and one pretty much as now, with original smaller mil wheels on (I prefer the chunky 7.50s but hey).
