Not a great deal has happened in the last few days, waiting for bits to arrive is most frustrating. However, I had two lots of gasket material turn up so managed to get two of the four head gaskets cut and I made a start on the crankcase cover gasket.
The cover gasket is 20 thou thick and it's only about 1/4" wide with a 6" hole in the centre, so care needed.
I carefully scribed round and round with a very sharp pair of dividers and ended up with a very good fit. I'll trim the outer once I've bolted the crankcase cover back on, but that's a week or more away.
All of the steel bits were chucked in the caustic tank
Two or three days should sort them out.
When I first stripped the tank prior to pressure testing it, I took the NRV apart and found that the flap disc was worn but, since I didn't know whether or not this was going to be a goer, just cleaned and reassembled it. Now I'm in full-blown restoration mode I decided to replace it. The only stainless stock I have is 10 thou thicker than the original, but I can't the being a problem.
I've had this marking blue for three years and never used it.
That's a centre pop and not a hole, in case you're wondering.
The finished piece. Not too bad I think, it's only 0.6" in diameter so was a bit testing when it came to holding it and then filing to the line.
A little bit of polishing needed to remove the abrasion marks from the surface and that's another job to cross off of the list.

Not a huge amount has happened since my last post. Parts de-greased and de-painted 
A few of the smaller pieces have had some primer splashed on. I do hate painting...
One more gasket made for the valve plate, now that the correct thickness has turned up. That took a good hour to do.One more to follow when the mood takes me.
The correct V-belt has arrived along with the new motor bearings and some eyelets for the motor tails. Still awaiting silicone sleeving and some anti-flashover resin to give the field windings a coating of.
Also, Machine Mart have been very slow supplying the synthetic oil, so can't reassemble the bottom end.
I suppose I'll have to turn my attention to the receiver soon, the bottom and legs are a bit rusty, so some flap wheel work ahead of me.

I’d happily paint that - it doesn’t seem to need filler, which is my least favourite job! Great to see a restoration thread that’s going places fast (unlike most of mine!)

I used to have to take compressors apart on work experience, document the whole thing with a camera then bag and tag the bits, engrave the conrods, pistons etc. A lot of the big machines have one on board, I think the last one I did was for a Michigan 275. Absolutely loads of rubber seals inside, as difficult to remove as they were to reinstall!

A little more action today. Some insulation and varnish turned up for the motor rewire and the Machine Mart delivery finally made it to the local shop, so I finally had my oil. Time to bolt a few bits back together I thought.
First, a quick hone.
Cleaned the bores and finally the rods and crank are back where they belong. The whole lot tuns over smoothly, no stiff spots at all
But it's not painted, I hear you say...
I said I hate painting, so I decided to adopt the factory approach. Assemble the lot and then dunk it in the paint bath
Since I've only 1/2 a litre, that won't be happening, but I can paint the whole lot with a large brush. I'm sure it'll look fine
I will need to remove the tag, of course, but that's a minor inconvenience.
I did actually get around to fitting the right hand cylinder head an reed plate. Tomorrow, finish the reed plate gasket, fit the connecting pipe and instal the second head
Then on to the motor and, finally, the painting of the receiver

Today's offerings: heads on and tightened down and oil seal fitted. Just about ready for a quick degrease and then set to with the yard broom
Does anyone else think that the link pipe is back to front?
Since the sky decided to start dripping I moved into the workshop.
Being an old motor it used a 3/4" conduit thread fitting for the cable entry point. I don't have any, but I do have some more modern Kopex with 20mm metric adaptors. The tap arrived a couple of days ago so i thought I'd have a play with that.
The casting was set up in the bench drill (slightly out of square
), drilled 47/64", the closest drill I had to the tapping size, and the the tap run in. I then needed to machine the boss for clearance for the fitting and to square it up, which is where my recently purchased boring head came into play again. What did I do before I had one?
I didn't want to machine too large a flat so, to clear the hex, I made a thick aluminium seating washer. The fitting was trimmed to length and the bore profile rounded with the aid of a rounding over end mill set up in the compound of my lathe.
With rain promised for tomorrow I think I'll attack the motor stator to re-terminate, re-tie and lacquer the windings now that the correct sleeving, lacquer and eyelets have arrived.
The bearings are also here so I could possibly have a reassembled motor come end of play.

Well, the first job today was to sort out that damned link pipe. It looks so much better now

After that I had a play outside with the grinder and finger file, making a start on derusting and stripping the receiver. It's rained now and there is a nice fresh coat of rust on it But it's only light so not a worry.
After that I decided I really should give the motor some attention. I'd popped down to Halfrauds earlier to get some etch primer for painting the motor bell-ends
, so that was the first operation. No pictures.
To refresh your minds, this is what the stator windings looked like
After an hour or two things now look like this, which I think you'll agree is a whole lot neater and safer

Tomorrow I'll get myself covered in anti-flashover varnish when I try to coat the windings
