how to remove a stuck oil filter on renault van...

Got to change the filter on a 07 renault 116 dci van, now the oil filter is a paper element which is held in by a plastic cap, nice design as it has a 27mm nut moulded on....untill you try and undo it ! I can see the cap plastic twisting without it undoing, so obviously well tight/stuck, I used a socket on the nut and a chain wrench on the body, the body just starts to dent in. hmmmm see now why oil hasnt been changed for years
before I break it any of you guys got any special way to remove the SOAB, looking on net theres a tool which grips the canister as you undo it, with two wide semi circle legs, this looks best bet as the 3 legged sort would certainly crush it without probably undoing it.
advice if you have coquered this before much appreciated. Arther

i done my daughters only a few nights ago that was done only 2 years ago and that was hard to get off i put it back on with the touque set to 25 nm as sojested on a video and does not leak so they dont need to be that tight

On my works one they have a plastic cap, with a 24mm "Bolt head on top.
It fits over the filter and the rubber grips the filter and a spanner is used to undo it, if a rubber glove hand does not.

thanks, dont think that will work though, as already tried a socket on the 27mm end an whole plastic canister just twists without undoing as the side of canister is straight cylinder they wont grip on that.. much appreciated though. Arther

Use your chain wrench but put 2 or 3 pieces of wood the full length of the casing to spread the load and give more grip

Try some Plusgas on it and then tightening it and loosening it over and over, if its flexing Plusgas should work it's way in.

Im not familiar with the Renault but i would of thought that gripping the 'canister' was going to cause more trouble as it should just be the plastic cap that comes off

Just looked at a video on youtube is this a traffic where the filter points down?

If it’s spinning then it’s ******** the threads up so I’d get a replacement cap as you may destroy the one fitted in removing it

07 should be the m9r engine in which case you may get lucky in getting the engine hot hot. The oil filter housing expands slightly and then can release.

If not the hammer and screwdriver to pierce a hole. Snap the rest of the cap off then lever the threaded part off and replace the cap.

yes already checked availability..and they can be bought , plus gas I have but its plastic to plastic and up the wrong way to get any to soak unfortuanntly,thanks tho

shame I already drained the oil !, but sounds a good idea, if I use a hot air gun on it to get top hot, will have to be carefull though its soaked in oil as steering pump had gone, replaced that ok, just thought oil and filter wont take ten minutes while ime here,ha . after that its sort the abs light on, presume,well hope its a wheel sender. Thanks
