I turned an adaptor sleeve for my Tom Senior however you could bore the pulley out and use a taperlock bush or buy a new pulley and bush.

How do those taperlock bushes work? I'd rather not modify the pulley if possible and I have no way of boring it out accurately. It's a 4 step pulley and I think I'd struggle to find the right one if I tried to buy a new one.

A split cone is pulled into a taper on the inside of the pulley and in the process it clamps onto the shaft and the pulley together. You can't use it without turning a taper into the pulley set.

You need a taper lock pulley as well, those tapped holes for the grub screws are not on the CL but about 5° off so not dead easy to make, a bush sound best

I can't afford a celebrity lathe. I'm actually a few pennies short of Roofman's lathe.

Taperlock pulleys aren't necessarily as expensive as you might think and there are a few choices in shaft sizes available.

They're great, if you get a pulley that's correct for the belt you will use and that fits on a 5/8 shaft you're sorted.

that depends if you actually make things for a profit or work for yourself etc.. surely?

I'm a massive fan of tapper locks, especially watching someone try to remove one when they haven't got a clue and don't need advice .

But do be careful with them I once screwed the grub screw into the extraction hole with my fingers backwards (hex socket first) and couldn't get it out

That motor had exactly the same bolt pattern as the old motor so I bolted it in place and then thought "I wonder if this turns in the right direction" so I had to get the vertical head back on (I have figured out a system for this now) only to find it's backwards. Any ideas how to reverse the motor?

Reverse the yellow wires in the junction box should do it.

I'm thinking either make up a platform about an inch lower than the pallet and pivot/shimmy the mill down onto it, then from there onto a lower one, and then onto some rollers to get it into position. Either that or make a strong long wooden ramp with some steel bar on the surface and slide it down onto the floor.

Check out that lathe I sent you the link for just your price range . wont loose any money on it IMHO if its soon out grows itself.

Anyway I would do the wooden ramp possibly but I have shimmied stuff to something the same height then pull back on the top of the mill ...........freeing the pallet.

Pull the pallet out and replace with something slightly lower.....only you know how low you can go in one step with the mill falling over. Keep doing this and go lower each time....probably wont take many steps.
