Brakes set, the micrometer worked a treat.
Everything crossed for the MOT tomorrow

Just a thought, but Hilux are known for hand break issues an often the pivot point on top of the axle needs freeing up an lubricating, worth a look if you aint already.View attachment 511115
New spiral cable in, airbag light off, horn working, tested with the diagnostic software, happy days.
On disassembly of the old one to understand what went wrong, the ribbon cable inside had shaken loose of the spring loaded clip which holds it to the output connectors. I think me giving the steering wheel a firm yank to free it from the splines may have jiggled it just enough to make it fall out.
Everything now works, the handbrake is still not quite right, based on the current brake pedal travel, it feels like it does when they're quite worn so I probably left too much shoe clearance doing it by eye.
I don't want to overdo things tightening them by feel, so might have to pop the wheels back off tomorrow and use the 9"-12" micrometers to set the shoe position (I don't have calipers big enough) giving the Toyota recommended 0.6mm of clearance from the 295mm internal diameter of the brand new drums. I guess that's a reading of 590 thou with the 11"-12" anvil fitted.
Already looked at it and the cable connections when I was messing with the secondary adjustment turnbuckle underneath, it still moves freely.Just a thought, but Hilux are known for hand break issues an often the pivot point on top of the axle needs freeing up an lubricating, worth a look if you aint already.
