Hi I'm putting my hands up and confessing I'm not a welder and know nothing about welding so I've gatecrashed and understand if you want to kick me out. In reality I'm a 75 year old lady who was looking for help choosing a Dash Cam on Google and your discussion page came up on it. If it's still ok to post up a question then I'll be really grateful - if not I'll apologise and say bye bye. I'm lookingfor help from people who are down to earth and speak in terms I can understand. I do have a mechanic friend who is fitting a Pioneer car play into my old Honda CR-V and has said he will fit front and rear dash cams for me at same time so they will be hard wired. So thats a bit about me....can I stay please?

I had a couple of older dashcams that clip onto the rear view mirror - I like them as they are discrete and you don't have a typical dashcam stuck on the windscreen.

I've been using Nextbase dashcams for 10+ years, in my own vehicles and fitted many to other vehicles too. Not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but i find them to be really good. This is what i have in my own car and is what i currently fit to others.

I bought a nextbase 622gw as "renewed"...basically nextbase refurb them I think. When it arrived it was basically like new!
The fitting is still on my "to do" list....but I was happy with what arrived. I seem to remember it was a fair bit cheaper too.

I have an elderly Nextbase 522 - I think GW, but it may be an older model.
I'm not impressed:
It's only '2K' not '4K' so the image quality is of little use in the event of a claim. Unless one of the vehicles is stationary and within about 15m I can never read the number plate.
The 'parking' function failed to capture the two occasions on which supermarket parking rash was inflicted.
It has never recorded a continuous 'trip'. Several times I've brought the dashcam into the house, plugged it into the PC, told it to download all the clips, then played them back. I get intermittent clips but never the full trip.
I considered 'upgrading' to a current model 622GW as it would make mounting easy.
Does anyone with a 622GW find it a significant upgrade to the 522, and that it has eliminated these shortcomings?

The Viofo range keeps coming up top of the review. But at over £400 they should!
Their form factor seems clunky. The Nextbase are hard enough to tuck behind the rear view mirror out of sight.

Ashley Neal peddles them on his youtube channel and the footage does look good. He has a 5% off voucher code, but figured if he has 5, there must be better. I've just googled then checked and 'ben10' gets you 10% off. No idea who it's affiliated with and what kickbacks they get, but 10% is 10% (this is direct sales from the Viofo website so resellers might be able to better the 10% off)
