Colchester triumph lifting plate

Hi, does anyone know if the drawing for the above lifting plate would also suit a Colchester Student 1800?

It is a very thin lead, but there is someone at the bottom of this thread that suggests they found the dimensions for a Student 1800 one online somewhere:

Just wondering if anyone has a Colchester Student 1800. As far as I am aware they do not have the tapped hole for lifting so require a lifting plate. If you have suck a lathe do you have the lifting plate?

If you can re-locate those dimensions, you can determine whether they are the same as or different to the ones above.

If you have access to the machine, make a plywood or cardboard version of the one above and try it. Easy to trim or extend before you commit to metal.

The lifting plate top and bottom would be virtually identical to the fixed steady underside and clamp.

If you havent got a lifting eye poke a sling through the slot in the bed & poke a heavy lump of timber through the eye below the bed, If its inclined to slip towards the tailstock hold it back with a rope or strap round the headstock. Running strops round the bed is liable to bend leadscrews & other bits.
Having had a quote for ******** headstock bearings on a Colchester Bantam 2000 It isnt a good idea to lift off the spindle whatever anyone says. Just because most movers do it that way cos its easy dont make it right.

Looks pretty easy to fab one if you have a mill , im tempted to make one for mine as you never know when single point lifting it could be handy

Making one is easy if you have the machine in front of you from which to take dimensions. If you are collecting a machine that you have just bought, you either need the item itself or the measurements so you can make one in advance and carry it with you.

If you blow the original image up to 250%, the dimensions are legible. See below.

What is interesting is that the metric numbers are easier to read than the imperial fractions. Another string in the bow of the metricistsView attachment 470832.

what is this drawing for? seems from first glance to be the same as the one I have for the 1800 Student.

If for a Triumph then it is a lot narrower than the one that would be needed for my Triumph 2000.
Although the dimensions are not the easiest to make out it looks to be the same as the one I have that is, as far as I know, for a Student 1800.

It is literally a bit of plate about ¾" thick and about 10-14" long that goes under the ways from memory
