Yet another reason I have no interest whatsoever in oz. Draconian laws on modifying vehicles to begin with, and now turning an entire area into effectively a homeowners organisation.

Be interesting to see what happens in a couple of years when society has divided itself into those that just want to be left alone and those that can’t help but report their neighbours for “infractions”. Seems a perfect blend for peaceful coexistence………

Yep, those home owners organisations in the states seem to be backed up by the police, who turn up within minutes of them reporting someone for having moss in a cracked front path!

Sadly I know a few people who think everyone should be forced to be as bland and boring as themselves!

The media makes it sound worse than it is. But yes there's always more restrictions coming in. Try keeping the mining claim the family has had for almost 50 years. Now there's all sorts of stuff to fill in and send out constantly.

Which laws do you speak of?

I doubt they are much different than most countries. Occasionally they can be a little annoying but most of them are there for a good reason.

Here in Greece u cant own a pick-up or a van unless u have a register'd business.....
I'm over that rule now....still think it's nut's tho....

When I bought my first house I must have been a bit of a nightmare neighbour. Always crashing and banging about knocking the house about or working on cars. That said the neighbours were kept in the loop and at liberty to tell me if I had overstepped the mark, communication is key if you live in a built up area.

I have an American friend whose parents lived in one such housing zone, they were limited on what colour they could paint their house, the age of car on the drive, what time they were allowed visitors to stay until, how long their lawn could be etc. They had groups of residents patrolling continuously checking everything was to the letter of their ‘law’. However, when you first moved to such an area you signed that you would obey these rules.

Spoke to someone who had to apply for planning permission to fit a different door knocker to his house ...

must admit I for one believe in live and let live , untill some one paints their property PINK in the middle of the new forest ! now its their choice , I am not putting in complaint , but sheesh just a bit garish and out of character for the surroundings ,don t mind the three rotted to the ground trucks n vans , the dog barking , the broken pram on the way over grown lawn ,which is perfect for the wild life!, or the gate that fell off its hinges years back , but PINK ...

Casey council is a disaster. I think they got shut down for corruption a couple of years back. Good news is the council meeting last night saw a bit of protest..

* I saw something similar at a council planning meeting about a controversial proposal to "demolish & rebuild large parts of Morpeth town center" project held at Morpeth County Hall (HQ for Northumberland council).
The planning meeting got a bit heated, I noticed there were a dozen police on standby in reception and several police cars and vans in the carpark. I've never seen that before at a council meeting !
Facts for your info only, I'll make no comments about my thoughts after seeing it myself.

It seems to be the way all goverments/councils/other powercrazed bodies work, they can't be bothered to tackle/confront the few trouble makers that cause the initial problems so let's just go down the ban route point blank

They also tried to pass laws that you could only use spare parts manufactured by the original vehicle manufacturer. And that all services had to be done by the main stealer dealer. Amongst other draconian regulations, no doubt inspired and funded by the automotive industry….

They all got kicked out.

So it’s not an alien concept, the rule in Oz.
