I might be wrong but I believe you can't work on the braking system on vehicles registered in Germany unless a garage does so.

When I bought my first house I must have been a bit of a nightmare neighbour. Always crashing and banging about knocking the house about or working on cars. That said the neighbours were kept in the loop and at liberty to tell me if I had overstepped the mark, communication is key if you live in a built up area.

i bought my house it was a right shambles and like an ecology park did it up on nights and saturdays at reasonable times and got complaints i told the spokesman il either buy a load of geese or my plot of land next to me il let the local travelers on it with there caravan dogs and horses free of charge go tell them that . never hears a peep out of em after that

The couple who moved in next door to me a year ago spent two months with builders in. Every morning 6 days a week, heavy banging, drilling, chiseling etc. They basically turned the garage into part of the house, knocked a door through to it, raised the floor up, all new plaster, complete new heating system etc. I changed my bedtime so I woke up an hour earlier, before the hammering started.

Your not supposed to have a vehicle off the road in private property here, unless its a restoration project because of "ecological pollution". When the law first came into force about 15 years ago, all this really nice vintage tin that was quietly rusting in hedgerows etc that I was eyeing up disappeared almost overnight all crushed because it was illegal to do. I was pretty gutted at the time, its like the green party of France went on a vengance to destroy very restorable old cars because they hated cars, and just made up some crap reason and they caught the ear of the government who made all this legislation.

We had a bunch of old renault masters I was using for parts in my field, and a few project cars, and someone reported us under the law and I was working away, so this pair of gendarmes were giving the hard word on my wife warning her of the fines etc unless she called the disposal yard and had them removed immediately, and she asked "but this is allowed if they are projects yes?" and they said "yes", so they walked round the field, and they stopped at each vehicle and asked her what it was, and she told them "a restoration project". I tidied up the field of old vans and moved the kitcar a few years later, but in my own time.
Waiting for someone to pull the same here, because of circumstances we suddenly have a yard full of cars again and it looks like a garage forecourt, but they genuinely are all family cars or projects. And the answer will be the same.

Many years ago, someone I knew rented an old farmhouse with a barn attached, this we used for repairing our old cars & my mate was doing an AH 100/4. All the farm land had been sold off for housing apart from a rough paddock. One evening one of the neighbours came over & said “can you look at the brakes on the wife’s Mini, she’s taking her test tomorrow” we sorted the brakes for him & got “how much do I owe you” we wouldn’t take any money, glad to help, but he insisted. We told him we were off down the pub in a a bit & a beer would go down well. I can’t recall how much he gave us, but not a lot. A few days went by & council man turned up, “I understand you are running a business” it was explained every vehicle here was owned by us, so where did this come from. “You have been reported I can’t tell you who” & looked over to where the Mini owner lived. My friend explained the situation & said what now. To be told “a pig run over against that wall would be fine, this is still registered as farm land, the 100 yard? distance rule doesn’t count” a council man with common sense, he realised we had been set up. We had no further trouble.

At the old house I had no end of issues with neighbouring couple. Old Doris and her husband who had built the entire estate of you listened to them. Accused me of crashing a car trailer pulled by a defender with a defender on into the drive dividing wall and chipping the rendering on their side(?) not sure how that works, as there was no damage to my side.

Final straw was when one of her self proclaimed hard man sons banged on the door to tell me it was illegal to work on my own car on my own drive, and that I really wouldn’t want to fall out with him. Pushed him off the doorstep and told him the next he came onto my property to threaten me, he wouldn’t be leaving it under his own steam. Never heard from them again fortunately and moved not so long afterwards. I did however take great pleasure in watching one of the sons back a hi top van down the drive, clip the edge of the brand new roof they had just had fitted and knacker about 5 rows of roof tiles.

I have an American friend whose parents lived in one such housing zone, they were limited on what colour they could paint their house, the age of car on the drive, what time they were allowed visitors to stay until, how long their lawn could be etc. They had groups of residents patrolling continuously checking everything was to the letter of their ‘law’. However, when you first moved to such an area you signed that you would obey these rules.

We have an area near us owned by the Bournville village trust, it's land originally owned by the Cadbury family to provide housing, amenities etc. for the workforce at the chocolate factory, if you buy a house there you are limited to what colour you can paint it, windows, doors etc. have to be kept in period and no building extensions.

I worked with a guy in the 80's who converted his garage into an extra bedroom for his daughter, it was a council property and they found out and made him change it back, I only found out the story when I went to pick something up at his house and asked why there was wallpaper on his garage walls.

Covenants are not worth anything if there's no-one to enforce them.

When my house was being renovated one of the builders used to think he was proving a point by using petrol tools at 0800 sharp. I proved it back by starting at least one and leaving it running before he arrived.

He soon stopped.

thats me i put them on and can enforce them a builder came unstuck when he was gonna buy the plot and put 2 houses on it instead of one . it never happened
