its an option yes , does having sun shining on the case cripple the performance? seems the gubbins are on the rear of the box that would be shaded , obviously in a perfect world it would be in the coldest area but im not really into running pipe from the other side of the house , surely these hot countries get a bit of sun on them ?

Most big commercial A/C's in the city are set right on the roof getting sunlight from all directions.

If you're cost conscious, then anything you can do to minimise inefficiencies will help. Solar gain on large commercial units (which also tend to have better airflow) is minimal compared to their rated capacity, and the running cost is never really a design consideration, despite what the regs say.

Just out of interest, here's some real world inverter data from a winters day providing heating, and a summers day providing cooling. Not very scientific as there's the background load from the house, kettles and evening meal prep going on, but you get the idea.
Heating morning and evening:

So ~1.5 kW consumption for two units heating...

cooling through the day:

Consumption varies as one or two units are turned on. As far as I remember, this was a really hot day, and you can see the PV covers the consumption :clapping:

Mine's a bit more simplistic, we have gas heating so I just look at the average spring / autumn electric cost (~£70 per month) and the average summer spend per month (~£100)

The higher bars are 'double months' where I CBA to send in meter readings within the allotted window, each bar is not a calendar month.

So using simple man-maths, aircon has a round-figure cost of £1/day for our installation & usage.

To be honest, it just means the energy cost is more-or-less constant over the year as when the aircon usage falls off, there is a brief lull before the heating starts getting some use.

i look at the old school type of air con

but we can use fans with solar power nowadays to help draw the air

just remember water is cold and when its in a basement its really cold but in our case it needs to be replaced to stop it going stale so has to be drained out and refilled

Remember if you're having the system installed and get the installer to supply the hardware there is no VAT to pay on either the hardware or the labour. 20% saving right there.

I seem to recall we had to do the fgas tickets on maintenance so we could work on the machines that gassed the cars up as they came down the production line.

seen as tech has moved on enough we can use solar panels to aid with stuff as its hot and bright and sunny so why not use that tech side of it for our own benefit

whilst old tech is still viable which is tunnels and water to create a cool enviroment

they are still working after 5 years, they were ubranded

i have 3 of em . worth every penny . i dont care how much they cost to run your health and sleep is far more important than saving some cash
