Another Fobco Drill

This arrived today. I made a mistake with the shipping and ended up paying much more due to the size of pallet the seller used. In future i will try and buy local to my old man and get him to pallet it up for collection.

I bought it not working the table is not great but not as bad as some i have seen. The switch is faulty so tried to bypass it but still not working. Is there anything else i can try to get this motor going? "Crompton Parkinson"

It has no chuck key and there is something missing off the front see third picture.

Take the Belt off,---Wire direct into the motor, by pass anything and everything on the drill. looks to have a locking handle possible missing, locks the quill in a fixed position?? i`m guessing the stud on the very front of the Quill housing, doubt its a depth stop.

Noticed a button on the bottom of the motor pressed it then plugged it in.

Yes the locking handle is missing where could i get one of these from?

And a new switch, chuck key.

There is a bit of play in the pulley and spindle.

The belt is very loose the motor will not budge although the two locks have been loosened.

depends on the thread size, something like this or similar not sure on original design, this has every possibility of being imperial, could be the two sliding motor mount belt tensioner bars are just a bit stuck/rusted in their holes.

Thanks again i'm going to give her a tidy up will try and free up the motor mount.

I managed to free up the motor mount and did a couple of test holes.

Is this play between the pulley and spindle normal?

Made a bit of progress. Removed the pulleys and motor.

On the motor the live is wired to T and Neutral to A, Z in unused is this correct?

Should i strip the motor down and give it a clean out?

Made a bit more progress gave the base and table a good clean.

Should i use JB weld on the table or fill with weld? The holes are not that deep.

DO NOT weld the table, you will probably warp it!

I wouldn't bother with the table, just use it as it, put a drill vice on it, and most of those will be covered. pm me an address and I'll stick a chuck key in the post, got more than a few rattling round, just confirm the size..

I also ordered a new belt. Just need to sort a switch now.

Good point a drill vice should cover the monkey marks.

always the same isn't it, like lost bits, spend hours looking for stuff, give up and go get a new one, only to find it when you start.... argh!!

no problem, have a look at the likes of RS or Maplins for the switch might throw up something similar. I don't know the Spanish equivalent, but if not there's Conrad.fr which is pretty good for that kind of stuff.

I did my table with JB Weld. Works ok but not a good colour match. My switch was a bit dodgy and I don't like not having an emergency stop so I fitted an NVR unit from Axminster on a bracket fixed using the existing switch mounting holes.

There is no discernible play in my spindle - i have some instructions if you need to change the bearings. Paint was Myford Lathe Cream from Paragon Paints.

I went to a few local places but they did not have a similar switch so may have to go for a NVR.
There is no side to side movement in the spindle could the bearings cause the play from my earlier video. If you have instructions for removing the bearings that would be great.

Gave the table and base a lick of paint.

Whats the best way to clean up these handles? Not much chrome left on them.

grind the chrome and rust of them with a flap disk or other then polish them up and just a bit of wd 40 now and then to keep rust away

there the best if u can pick one up at the right price . unless your picky just fit a double pole metal switch. about a fiver

Just been checking the sold prices on ebay the nippy vice are not cheap.

I have OCD when it comes to anything like this i've seen the amazing transformations you guys have done so i don't want to bodge it. I may have a tinker with the original switch.
