Thanks can you recommend a compound?

I've looked at ROCOL RTD Cleancut 350g Metal Cutting Fluid but its not cheap.

I have a supply of cutting oil I got from a pal when I got my lathe, you mix it with water and it goes white like milk - applied with a small brush, a little goes a looooong way.
I could decant some and post it to you if you like?

Thanks John i will see if i can get anything reasonably priced locally. If not i will send you my office address i usually get a nice parcel together then send it over to Spain via DHL. Plus Royal mail don't like sending liquids outside the UK these days.

I put a wire wheel to them first then gave them a quick polish. Could have done with a bench grinder.

Ive ordered a RÖHM 100mm drill press vice. Have no idea if its any good we will see.

The motor sounds rough any ideas what could be causing this?

knackered bearings ?? take the belt off and spin it by hand see what it feels like . then run it powered up see what its like. make sure the pulleys tight on shaft and make sure the cooling fan blades are tight on shaft

By the looks of it its the grub screw holding the pulley to the motor. Its working its self loose. I have the grub screw going into the groove on the motor shaft this is how it was when i got it.

put a small dab of loctite on the screw and a tiny bit on the shaft should sort it but if u needed it off u would need to heat it up to loosen it

Thanks will give it a go. At least its not the bearings.

Bodged a fix for the switch handle it seems to hold ok should stop the switch scraping the paint.

Just the table now. My mig has the option for mig brazing could i use this to fill the holes?

I would use something like jb weld, it will blend in better than the brass from brazing & you don't run the risk from warping the table by heating it.

Drill press vice arrived today.

Maybe its too big???

It weighs 7kg.

At least i cant see the holes in the table any more.

No they are bits i'm waiting to drill removed my stick on stitches this morning so hoping to get back on with it soon.

I could back it and get a smaller one the quality looks ok.

I have the 7201 the 7197 is a little smaller the three at the top are a lot smaller but not as solid.

it certainly is big and robust . its size not a problem if u have enough height it should do fine u can turn the table round and use the base for vice for large stuff

That's a very nice clean up you have done on your Fobco drill.

Would you please be able to tell me how you cleaned up the pillar and the table/base. I may have a similar clean up to do on an old drill and was concerned that I might marginally reduce the pillar diameter by cleaning it up and introduce small amount of play between the pillar and the head.
