We normally hang out in the "Rolex lounge" a section not visible to non-Rolex owning members I have my Casio watch on tonight so I'm allowed to post here.

i recently had my bi metal submariner serviced and rewaterproofed with new seals, at the watch repair center in newcastle. Like i said i came back like a new watch. Strap refurbished too, bargin at 600 quid.

And yes I often do wear it welding. I wear it all the time. Its a watch thats what its for. I have dived with it, skydived, worked on cars, bikes and all sorts of other things, worn it every day for the last 20 years. Felt naked with out it when it was away.

They are an appreciating asset, and nice things to own. Mine is quite sentimental to me, but thats a very long storey!

Don't wear it when out drinking and deciding to leapfrog parking meters!! It will fall off, be lost and you won't even notice until next morning and never see it again...... .......don't ask me how I know.....

If you bought a bog standard Oyster about 18 months ago and haggled at the dealers so saved a few %, its now worth more than you paid!
Not many things you can do that with

No mate I don't have one.
I've got a few watches that get worn rarely if ever. I'd imagine between them they cost me no more than 60 quid one of them is an old animal watch that I wore on site. It's a tough watch.
A service well. A Battery. A whipe and strap in the washer. If I know the servicing money was that good I should do some myself.
@cumbriasteve as yours doesn't have a battery I'll do it cheap mate. So that's a wipe and strap in the washer £20.

I have just been pressure washing the patio so thought why not at the same time, it's come up lovely and I am sure once dried out will have added £'s to it's value.

cost has never been more than around £200, they do a postal/courier service. My watch always comes back looking like new, despite me giving it a hard life -but I do wear a battered Sekonda diver's watch in the workshop after ruining an Omega Seamaster with weld spatter etc. previously

I had a seiko, never again, nice watch but the quality of certain bits was rubbish tbh...

I had a battery-less one with the crystals or whatever inside, I know what you mean, it gained time like nobody's business... one week I was up 7 minutes

I've also had some fakes over the years,best one I had was from Bali. It was a submariner, proper movement and a glass back so you could see the wheels etc. AFAIK, Rolex never made a Glass back Submariner so even though it looked the dogs proverbials it was obviously a fake as soon as you took it off your wrist

I recently had a Rolex Oyster serviced at Rolex service headquarters in Kent, £400 basic service, came back like brand new with 12 month guarantee. However a full service with 300m waterproof guarantee would have been over £1700. As I will be selling it soon I opted for the basic and haven't worn it since to keep it mint. One point is that the strap should have matching serial numbers at both ends where it joins the watch. Greeves 246

That's what I have. Isn't it amazing how different the conservative, understated YM1 (16622) is compared to the hideous, garish, in-yer-face YM2?

I had a customer/pal who owned a fast food outlet [...OK, chip shop ] who told me he'd dropped his Rolex in the boiling fat, fished it out, rinsed it and it was still going. Needless to say, I didn't believe him and said so, but he demonstrated for me next time I was in the shop [yes, he was a bit bonkers].

I said he should write to Rolex and report what had happened, but he wasn't great at composing letters, so I did it for him. He got a letter from Rolex asking if they could examine the watch, in return for which they'd service it FOC. He sent it off to somewhere 'darn sarf' and it was returned as good as new, despite being years old.

For years I got books and Christmas cards from someone in Rolex's HO in Switzerland.

During WWII if you wanted a Rolex or Omega they had to come via the Swiss embassy. My father bought two Omega and a Rolex pilot's watches after the war for 21 guineas which he still had when he died a couple of years ago. No idea what happened to them but suspect I'll never see them (stepmother & her children !)

My current watch cost me £3 and still hits the top on the BBC bleeps...Can someone please explain why anyone pays hundreds of pounds for new seals on a watch so they can submerge hundreds of feet...is there an underwater society i dont know about where people hang out but need to know the time so they dont miss the last bus back up to the surface?...surely a water seal upto 10ft would be ample and cover most swimming pools

I've had my Seiko kinetic for 10 years, it still looks great and I rarely have to adjust the time on it.
I'm probably in a minority here, I know the quality is superb but I think Rolexes are quite boring to look at.
No disrespect to anyone as it's each to his own but if I was looking to splash serious cash on a watch I'd probably choose something a bit fancier.

That is also my way of thinking but I'd guess that anyone with that sort of money to spend on a watch probably already drives a decent car.
