What a bummer - sadly it doesn't like an easy or cheap fix.
No...as I say I haven't looked any deeper than a quick glance but knowing my luck it's a piston that's decided it wants to be defective

Exactly, look on the bright side, you could have just shelled out for an Mot and then this happens.... the car might be a gonna but your 50quid better off.
Perhaps BB should consider Shanks's Pony for his next mode of transport, at least that way the NHS picks up the maintenance bills rather than BB himself.

Reading this, I take it you didn't stop as soon as possible and investigate what was up with your car, but instead decided to continue driving home.

Cracked head had entered my thoughts...
Strip it back tomorrow and check all the pipes, gaskets etc...
Then make a trip to the motor factors...haven't had to go there since scrapping the megane
