It was only a Thor #2 copper hammer, weighs about 2 pounds, I've always a sledgehammer or bigger to be a BFH.

The snapped bolt inside the swivel head. I think I could probably get a new stud to replace it with.
Gear handle all sorted, I just need a new handle for it as this handle is stolen of the front of the machine. Should be quite simple to make.
Don't suppose anyone recognises this, I found it hiding in the sump when I put the coolant pump back in.

some kind of taper socket, if you measure it we can compare it and see if the numbers match any of the standard sizes; I've not used an engraver since I was in college 20-odd years ago, I can't remember what's used to hold them in. I imagine that the advent of cheap CNC has meant most engravers going to scrap, as they're right fiddly to use.

It's literally a half; half-centres are not, they're more like 9/16 centres.My first thought was that it's a half dead-centre on a very small taper shank

There are ways of getting 415v without a rotary droning in the corner, my lathe can only take 415 3-phases cos of the 3-speed motor...
OLDER 415 to 415 VFDs are pretty cheap in eBay cos everyone has 240 at home and if they have 2 banks of capacitors you.can do. What I did , run neutral to the mid point between the 2 banks and live to the input terminal, this gives a voltage double and puts the equivalent of 480v on the input... You have to oversize the VFD but 3hp 415 In are pretty cheap and would do your.motor a.treat even with the suds pump and feeds (if the.feeds have a separate motor). I.use.a 5hp VFD on a 3hp lathe, no problems so far...

Ok, brief explanation...
VFDs take the incoming mains and rectify.it.to DC, so a 415 VFD obviously produces a higher DC voltage (about 600-700v), older ones were.made when the electrolytic capacitors couldn't stand the voltage so they wired 2 banks in series with 350v on each. The rectifier diodes went to each end, charging them to 700v overall, positive to one end, negative to the other so.whichever phase was most positive charged the positive end and vice versa.
Putting the neutral in between the 2 banks at the zero point, the single phase will alternately charge each end to.about 350 volts (peak), giving 650-700 volts across the two banks, which the VFD then chops from each end to approximate the three phases.

You're welcome - a good starting point would be something like an ABB ACS300-4P-something, a bit bulky (big shoebox size) but two capacitor banks and room enough to work in, pretty retro now as they're from the late 80s/90s, lovely to program though as they have a big friendly LCD display that uses words like 'max current' instead of parameter numbers :-)

There's a guy selling a 5hp 240 volt single phase to 415 volt three phase Teco inverter for £175. Quite temped by it because I can just get it, plug it in and go, no playing with high voltages or taking anything apart. I'll need to check how much money I can spare but do you think it sounds worth it?
