for a few extra squidums imho you should of collected yourself matey for a few reasons and one being you can check for damage or missing bits and another when these old machines are stripped they over the years kinda grow around the fixings and go back together much better with the bolts/nuts on the original studs and holes. You will be getting a box of bits thats been stripped prior to shipping with no indexing marks. good buy though at that price and goodluck.

Wouldn't a HIAB need a trained operator?

When I had my milling machine and lathe moved the HIAB driver made it look so easy. The mill is almost 4 tons - it had broken to smaller HIABs in the past but this one was rated at 12 tons. It managed my Colchester Triumph lathe on full stretch - most impressive.

Is the step up or down? And is it 1" or 2"??? Our warehouse has a 1" step - taking goods out is easy - coming in you need a bit of a run - over 1" coming in is going to be very hard. A bit of timber or some plate may well be needed.

If we collect Wednesday then on an economy service it will be delivered Thu/Fri - the depot will ring to book it in. Remember this is a non guaranteed service. They are approx times but offer more flexibility than the guaranteed next day service - cheaper as well.

It's just under 2" and it's a step up. I'll see if I can make some kind of ramp, I could tack two bits of flat side by side to make 80x8 bar with a piece at one end to make it into a slope and make one to go under each wheel, would that be suitable?

That is exactly what it is!
First lorry that I had move it blew the seals on it's HIAB.
The 12 ton one managed fine but pretty close in. The lorry went up quite a bit when it touched the floor - jacks off the ground - even the driver was surprised - they don't look that heavy!

Hard to tell without seeing it or trying it!!!
Pallet trucks have such small wheels but that is all that any lorry will carry.

I can't find the photos of the sturdimill being lifted but here is my Colchester Triumph already on the lorry.
Anyone in South Wales I can't recommend William Boyle highly enough. Awesome service and pretty good prices!
The lorries they use are just awesome. Much better than mucking about with a local scrap lorry driver.

That lathe is awesome and with that mill you must make some massive stuff, what do you use it for?

See if the bloke has a sheet of 8x4 shuttering ply or something lying around - that should bridge the gap easily. Even a few planks laid down may do the trick.

The reason I have such huge machines is because they are cheaper than the small stuff. My Sturdimill was free and the lathe cost me £300 about 10 years ago. Both are in mint condition - owned by a toolmaker who just used them occasionally.

What do I use them for? Well errr ummm I haven't yet!!! Need to get them wired in. Working 17 hours a day doesn't leave much time! Having said that now I have more staff I only work 12 hrs a day so there is hope!

I have a small Emco lathe as well which gets used quite a bit.

I've no idea what the conditions are like his end but he said he regularly has machines sent on pallets so it should be fine. I was thinking, since it will all ready be on a trolley it would be silly not to get it into position using the trolley rather than them dropping it off outside and me having to hoof it inside.

It is surprising what you can achieve with some heavy steel rollers. I can move my 4 ton mill quite easily. See that must be how the Egyptians did it!!!

My colchester master was moved with 4 casters
and two 4 x 4 hollow bar and a car jack. Although I have moved it before with an engine hoist.

You've got a day or so, why not get a bag of sand and cement, put down a piece of heavy duty Polythene and then lay a mortar ramp up the step? You can break it up after and the Polythene will protect your drive surface.

I strapped my colchester chipmaster to a pallet truck and pushed it up some scaffie boards to get it up 5 steps. I thought I may have needed to winch it up but it sailed up with the winch rope used just as a safety precaution.
