the coins one is good. there was a Henry 5 coin on the bay with the description 'looks old' went for 300odd quid despite the guy who struck it, not two years earlier, contacting the seller,. So someone got ripped off, as Dave used to sell them at a pound.

Conversely, I'm always surprised how cheap a lot of Roman coins are on ebay etc, considering they're getting on for 2000 years old they're often just a couple of quid or so, I realise that there are fakes of these too of course, but these i'd think would be for the higher denomination / value coins, the everyday pocket change of the Roman world doesn't seem to have much value despite it's age and historical interest.

Couple of weeks ago, I get the ex brother in law on the phone asking if I know anything about a safe at his mothers. I used to help her with various jobs, as she helped me with the kids. She passed about 6 months ago, and hes now got probate and is clearing the house. He found a safe fixed into the her bedroom wardrobe, he didnt know was there. Tried all the numbers he could think off, and the key pad just kept flashing. He sent me a picture I did a bit of research. And today, it took me under 2 minutes to get it open. Once you know where to drill easy. Not really a good advert for a safe.
We werent expecting to find much in it, as my ex had been and taken all her jewellery to sell and paperwork, when she was in hospital about 10 years ago….hence why shes not in the will…long contorted story.
Most of her decent jewellery, her hubbies watch and a load of share certificates, still registered at her old address, were in there, guess she wasnt as doddery as we all thought.

A friend of ours is in his 80's he has a saying right tool for the right job.
His brother died and they found a safe in the house.
Two years passed and he decided to have a go at opening it himself with a Grinder.
It blew apart as he cut through it as it had what they think was some sort of gunpowder in it, so a quick ride in the air ambulance he is very lucky he survived and still have his legs.

Replaced the main cooling fan in my daily driver today. I'd read an article about how to do it - fiddly, but not too bad. Turned out to be fairly straightforward, but not as easy as the article claimed. Still, it's done now, and I'll be a little bit more calm next time I'm in traffic in this hot weather.
Once again I was glad to have bought the selection box of spring hose clip pliers that were mentioned on here. When it became clear that I'd have to disconnect a few water hoses it was a relief to know I wasn't going to spend the afternoon with the stupid things pinging out of reach like they used to. I even managed to find where I'd put them safe.
ETA - I was also glad that I'd bought the £4.99 set of torx keys from Lidl at the weekend, as I think I'd have struggled to use the ones that fit onto a ratchet. I've lost the ball bearing out of the 3/8" adapter for them, so I'd have had to use the 1/2" one and space is limited.

Fixed my old Cebora prof 55 today, developed a fault a few years ago and was pushed under the bench. Turned out to be the torch so opted to convert it to p80 style torc.
Old torch lead used a fitting that went to a compression 6mm coupling, new torch was 16mmx1.5, managed to find the thread to 6mm that only needed a taper put on the end.
Put a countersink in the end.
All wired up and working again, may even give it a clean
First Freehand cut on a bit of half inch plate, will order in some other tips and have a play with the air pressure, got a drag tip turning up today which will be better.

Not sure if this what I fixed or broke today. Over the weekend as part of the continuing sorting out of the kitchen I took the cooker hood off to find the pipe work not connected and instead of extracting outside it was a big greasy mess inside. The pipe work had little chance of staying together as it looked like a short piece of drain pipe bashed out of shape into the wall but too short to reach both sides with a flexible hose twice the width that must have just been wedged in.
Decided I’d sort it properly so bought an extractor kit and a core drill bit. Core drill wasn’t wide enough so had to return it and order one off Amazon. That arrived today but went to fit it to the SDS adapter and it wouldn’t fit because the adapter they sold me with the original core drill was M22 instead of 1/2 bsp so another wasted trip back to Toolstation. Finally got all the right size bits and adapter so let’s make the hole bigger. Not so easy as I can’t use a pilot drill to stop the core bit jumping around so I had to cut a hole the size of the core bit in a piece of ply and attach it to the wall to act as a guide.
Finally I can start drilling only to have more problems. First time using a Forge battery on the big Milwaukee CHPX drill and it cuts out instantly when fully pressing the trigger. Tried a 9ah battery and it would work if I slowly depressed the trigger but it still ate through the battery before it got through the inner bricks. Swapped out for a 5ah and I started to make progress until it stopped dead with flashing battery lights (over heated). Slapped another 5ah battery on but it cutting out, the drill was hot now. Only thing making progress now was the red mist. Stuck the battery on charge that had previously over heated but only got the flashing red light so removed it and let it cool down some more. I decided to get the compressor on and cool the battery with the air before putting it on the charger again and thus time it started to charge up. I thought I’d give the drill a blow out too even though it looked clean and usually blow it out after dirty jobs but it did the trick and with previously removed battery the trigger would allow a full press without cutting out. Back to cutting a bigger hole and it continued to work until I overheated the battery again but had managed to cut through to the outer bricks. Another fresh battery on and finished the cut, slowly but with issue and didn’t blow the brick work out.
Extraction ducting fitted perfectly and expanding foam filled the minimal gaps. After a complete farce of starting the job and tool problems after getting the right bits it’s a job well done, even if I say so myself.

Probably but the last corded Bosch SDS drill I had burnt out drilling a much smaller hole through the chimney. I think the whole job was cursed and should have left the extractor alone
I think I have anyway.
My mum's Beocentre 8000 - replaced the on-board battery a year or so ago in an attempt to fix the issue where it would have balance all to the right, bass all the way down, treble all the way up on switching on.
Found online a service instruction of using the remote to enter 1271 then PLAY, then wait 3 seconds, turn it off at the mains.
So first had to fix the remote . . .
Still would not retain settings.
Been looking on and off over the last year . . found one line in someones blog - "programming - sound - store" . . .
And it retains the settings ! Nowhere in the instructions does it mention having to store the settings.
Found the receipt for it - in 1992 she paid £1200 inc vat for the unit, the remote (£100!) and speakers. (I think she treated herself from the sale of her parents house).

Interesting. I've got the same drill I think and it was quite happy doing 6h non stop hacking render off with a 12Ah and a few 5Ah batteries in 30°C ambient. Not drilling but just on the hammer mode.

I’ve never had an issue with it before and as you’ll know you need to be careful with it as it punches through everything with little effort. I think I’ll have to get the covers off and see if there is an obvious issue otherwise get it sent off for service as something was off with it when using it in drill mode.
I guess thats why it's good to have a mix sometimes. For the few times I've had to Core drill I've used my corded SDS. It's nothing special but it works. For other times I've got an 18v SDS makita which will do hammer only which is good for bigger drilled holes up ladders and removing plaster etc and then I've got a 12V Makita Drill which pushes well above its weight. perfect for lots of small holes and light enough to hang of a work belt.
