Today I acquired...........

My 20 year old WSE200 tig welder died, when I needed to use it of course.
Being a farmer, with Scottish and Yorkshire ancestry, I of course went for the cheapest one I could find on Trademe. Took 10 days to arrive as it came ex Australia from an online seller.
I have tried arc welding and tig (on my office chair) and it seems to run ok. I haven't tried ali yet.
It has a 5 pin plug for the torch, so my old foot pedel won't work, but it was cheaper to buy a new foot pedal from Aliexpress than the fittings to make an adapter.
I think the old one died due to inhaling years of grinding dust, so I will put a cover over this one.

Well let's say it might be a good alternative than buying an unknown Chinese unit.
At least this one has proven to be reliable over time

2x Stihl chainsaws non runners. A 08 and 045. Larger 045 is said to run on spray but has carb issues so I have a rebuild kit coming and will try to get it running first. Both appear to have strong compression.

£15 each on FB locally - I paid the guy extra as I thought it was too low for em even in non running basis.




The 08 appears to have a chain brake on it so I'll look into that. It must be a late version as most have no brake at all.

Today I acquired a set . , 3/16 , 1/4 , 5/16 , 3/8 , 7/16 , 1/2 & 9 /16 " hollow mortice machine chisels with their drills to bother some wood .. Yes I know it's a welding site .

I' m going to make a dozen or so lidded wooden boxes that have tenon jointed corners , cutting them on my bench saw to give an inch deep lid & two or four inch deep or greater bottoms once the panels for the lids and bottoms are glued & screwed in place /

I dislike tool unboxed tools etc. , having to ratch around after finding a cable has unwound and tangled with other electrical stuff . I also want a decent sized box/ case to put all my imperial spanners & sockets in .. they don't get much use these days but I need them as my antique lathe is all imperial & it's an annoyance having them in with my metric sets . I've got space for lidded stackable boxes. I also want to have boxes for the various lathe tooling & cutters and MY WELDING spares etc.

Had a play tonight , cheap deal is not the best wood to make nice things with , but a blind man would be happy to see my efforts .

Those little hand vices have saved me many times from getting slashed in the crook of my thumb when drilling thin tin plate , They were also good for holding small things when you needed to file things when you were away from the engineering bench & engineers vice .

Months ago I've bought 3 new style Beta art.42 10mm spanners
I've then found the missing 10mm spanner
I've now bought 2 old style Beta 42 10mm spanners for 5 euro shipped home

Then I've contacted a guy nearby and got another arc welder

Got mainly for the leads
But I've then though about making a spot welder out of it .
Most likely struck switch and missing lever but I'll practically keep the primary winding only

I've then asked for those spot lights and extension cord

Just opened my emails to find one from a German gentleman who i mentioned a few posts back had a copy of a Universal Motor Company marine engine manual. He saw a post i made on a vintage engine forum about 5 years ago.
He has scanned the whole thing & emailed me a Pdf copy. Im staggered, A full workshop manual for the Blue Jacket Six & all its variants including mine the All American Six, also happens to cover the marine gearboxes too. Absolute gold dust.
Faith in human nature restored!

Had an haircut and while back home I've stop by a local building metal resale.
Bought 2x 6m long 16mm steel bars and ordered the 8 hooks for my mechanic pit
Made out of 16mm steel bar.

That's a 500g tub of grease sat atop it. Cast iron base, alu' table. Surprisingly quiet for a universal motor.

Got it for small work. Thin ply & wood.

A post popped up offering some model railway magazines on my local FB reuse group, so I asked for them, and got them. The photo showed a wheelie bin with these magazines in them, and I intended to ask whether the bin was full. When I got there, it turned out that the answer would have been "yes, and the other two are as well". As they were only around the corner the lady offering them (who was clearing out a relative's house) said she'd bring them to me, which was handy as it would have been two car loads in my car. Now I have a load of model railway magazines, which I often like to read through in case I ever do anything about building a new layout to use all the track I've been gathering from car boot sales for years.

And yes, I was talking about trying to clear stuff out at home, as I've got far too much stuff. I did take ten or eleven books to the charity shop today, so I've made a start, it's just a pity I set myself back so far. And will I ever read them?
