Oi, we grow and process all our own wood and I wouldn't touch her with yours!
In the grand scheme of things in the wood burning world the home loggist is looking very environmentally friendly, especially those converting a waste product into home heat. The last whole tree chipper we used got through 1200ltrs of fuel a day, that’s roughly 120ltrs per artic load, then that artic is transporting that chip anything up to two hundred miles away, then they dry the gear and mechanically load it into the boilers.Not to mention the fuel used to get all this gear cut and stacked ready for them.

@gaz1 , pleeaase can you tupe more slowly, and more logically, I really would like to get to the end of one of your posts without clicking next, who knows, maybe there is something logical in what you have to say, but I lose the will to read it generally. Actually the gist of what I get from you is rocket stoves are dangerously hot and many times more efficient than anything else - do you habe any scientific data/test results in kWh not flue gas temperature?

you are correct they are many times more efficient than a normal wood stove or boiler
there not dangerous as long as you upkeep them well, its the top plate on a rocket stove that suffers damage but that can be adjusted by either a wear plate or firebricks used as a deflector
the temp of the rocket stove is 2000f+ in some cases whilst a downdraft stove hits 2000f and needs firebrick protection
the only way id be able to prove it is via heating hot water in a cylinder or 2 cylinders which is what im doing and using radiators to get rid of excess heat too
which is transfering the heat to water to store
the same as the old back boiler heating a water store and radiators within a property
if i was to state like the rayburns then you can have preheat via that stove and then super heated at the top of the vortex which you have to be careful with as the water can soon turn to steam which can be very dangerous

It was hundreds (literally) of overstood 40 foot plus conifers, no processing, it was fell, stack and chip. Over twenty 100 cube artic loads averaging 29 tons each went off that site, no all conny.
This is a fraction of them.

Wickes are doing 24 big K heat logs for £12. Im more than impressed with them on a small stove . Been doing 6 logs a night, but 2 of these kick a lot more heat out. I don’t think they’d do a big burner to heat a full house but for a small install they are a success

OT, but I recall my Mum telling me that when just recently married, my parents lived in a rented flat in a tenement building [long since demolished] next to the harbour. Tenants in another flat stole the mast from a yawl from the boatyard next door.
Too lazy [or secretive] to cut it up, they laid one end on a chair in the lobby [hallway for those 'darn sarf'] and the other in the fire, moving the chair closer as the mast burned down. When they got too close as the heat was starting to blister the chair varnish, they upended the last bit vertically up the chimney.......cracked the gable of the building.....
Needs must when the Devil drives etc.

unlike many i will do something if im cold thats not going to be for long
ive lived the old way as a kid nothing worse than having to get out of a warm bed to traips through a cold house just to goto the toilet its as bad as the old outside toilet trips and ive done those as well
a gas fire in a proper chimney i will remove and get a nice wood fire going if needed as i do test things first and protect that gas upstand though i can do it when others cant
as goes for stoves well i kinda do my homework when looking at building them
the garden type is easy and so is the downdraft type if you understand them and there flows
the rocket stove i like due to less wood usage compared to the others
the issue always stands with homemade ones insurance will not like them so in some cases you have to build an outhouse and use it in there
in my case a boiler outhouse is the prefered option

What tosh about modern stoves taking an hour to warm up and doing 6 logs an hour, utter rubbish. Upto temp in 15 minutes, running only secondary, no visible emissions what so ever and running approx 77% efficiency.
A rocket stove might beat efficiency slightly but no like some of the wild claims here. There is good reason almost nobody runs rockets, it’s just not practical for most people.
As for water tanks, it’s again nonsense, they are dying a death. Had ours removed, oil for the CH now and the whole lot is much better for it.
