I will certainly stand by my statement that WBS are better for MOST people over Rocket stoves for home heating. Underlined most as you have a habit of misreading/misunderstanding on this forum.

if you care to read i stated downdraft stoves takes an hour to warm up and uses 4,5-6 logs to do so thats certainly not log efficent in my eyes never mind how much pollution your pumping directly up a chimney stack
normal wood stoves are direct to chimney a good amount of heat is lost up the chimney its certainly recorded heat from a magnetic thermostat stuck on the chimney hits temps above 500f+ gun temps are 1000f+
so thats 50 percent heat gone up the chimney the one good thing about a woodstove compared to a chimney is
whilst all these stoves are usa they are close to some of our models whilst they are clean visible emmisions when being burnt they are not with there output of the gph
all wood stoves need to warm up to output any type of heat the second skin stoves put out more heat and thats recorded in btu's and they dont take long to do so this also goes for secondary air stoves
newer secondary air stoves are more economical but not by much but you will be more cleaner burning unless you close down the secondary air function then your back at full gph going up the chimney

as goes for water tanks they are coming back it all depends on if homeowners want them or not to save money on energy
solar uses water tanks to store heat
woodstoves also can be used for storing heat in water tanks
pellet boilers use storage tanks theyve only just got bigger to store hot water and also to be used for central heating as well and so has the cost of these tanks a good tank with claimed years is 20-30 years even the copper tanks lasted a long time 30+ years and some with good care have lasted well over 50+ years and still in use
i do agree they was dying out but thats because they was replaced by a gas boiler directly connected to the mains water and gas pressure when the supplies was cheap enough
so owners could do away with there airing cupboards but alot of ladies who had them miss them as they was good drying areas for clothes instead of sat on the radiators or stuck in a dryer whilst homeowners gained a shower room the size of some airing cupboards
some companies have to install a hot water tank thats only compatable with electric heating via an emersion heater
id advise next time you would be best keeping your mouth shut when you clearly know nothing to claim tanks are dying out
i will also say not everyone can install an oil stove or have the storage capacity for an oil tank many will scream if they are forced to build a double wall and also have a collection area for there tank oil if it bursts
theres many owners that have covered up enviromental damage on there property when the tank has failed

whilst i agree a rocket stove may seem inpractical at best its size is the issue
1000mm front to back x 500mm width ( a rocket stove boiler is even bigger as i have built one ) as its a big unit to have installed in the front room and you cant really see the flames from it
its just a steel unit within the front room it dosnt look nice and can be an expensive first build ( they are perfectly fine for shed usage though )
however it does provide twice the heat output compared to normal stoves a vast improvement on the double walled stoves
normal woodstoves are 500f-1200f output the rest goes up the chimney
rocket stoves are 500f-1500f first burn chamber the heat exchanger adds another 1000f-2000f the top of the heat exchanger if fitted with tubes the bottem inlet is at temps of 350f
they also burn less wood 1 log if the rocket stove model uses secondary air and preheated primary air as the firebox changes and starts to gassify
but since ive built one as a test build myself and yes i thought as bad as you there dreaming and wafferling a load of crap ive also built and fitted many a wood stove and boilers into these woodstoves ive had the best option of trying the old and new systems to even trying the rocket stove
the rocket stove wins hands down on economy of the wood and far less is being burnt which means less wood storage is needed 2 cords of wood is ample enough for winter burning one yeah one cord is drying out whilst the 1st pre cord is used for the stove
the rocket stove is not the only stove ive built, i have a downdraft stove and that does produce twice the heat from it in down draft mode as that hits temps of 1500f-2000f
normal woodstoves are not cheap 500+ for secondary air systems
downdraft stoves your looking at treble or quadrupple that price 1500.00-2000.00
rocket stove build your looking at a decent price
compared to the bog standared soon to be banned wood stoves of below 500.00

im not arguing im just pointing out true facts
the way stuff is going with energy prices the investment to go back to a tank system is looking more and more viable we cant stop the increases but we can change how we store and how we store responsibly
water has always been a good store earth houses are there but not everyone can use them
sand is the better medium thats how come sand is used in the denmark heating system for the whole town for months
polar night sand storage 10m high x 4m wide
it can use wood or solar to get that sand to a very high temp to store for 3 months so better than water and can be used in reverse as water only needs above boiling temps whilst the sand battery holds temps of 2000f+

Interesting stats Gaz, not so sure about the losses up the chimney though. Most stoveists know how to get the best out of what they have and burn, that would include the use of the flue damper and draught control. My old stove will stay in all night if the flue damper is where it needs to be, I don’t come down to a cold room.

Gaz, water stores for WBS are still dying out, the eco design requirements have dealt them a death blow, I can’t be bothered to find out a manufacturers link explaining but they are out there for anyone interested.
Hot water storage from other means I’m all onboard with, for solar storage it certainly has a place, no dispute with that.
The rocket stove seems to me to suit workshop heating far more, where space and aesthetics are different priorities.
I love my WBS for many reasons whilst I’m also trying to minimise environmental impact. I have solar, I’ve added insulation and a home battery but the wood burner still has a place, I plant more than I take and I burn as efficiently as possible with well seasoned wood.

Forest of Dean coal isn’t to be banned as long as it’s sold locally. Anyone know why? I’m not some saddo, I was checking if coal is to be banned here so we can stay ahead of Jimmy Crankie and start getting it in for next winter!!

A lot of it is resinous enough to self bind together ish, needs some tonnage to achieve it.

back boilers can still be fitted to wood stoves including the newer secondary air models and more so the downdraft models that hit 2000f in temps
the xeoos twinfire and other models can fit 2 in them
back boilers have gone expensive for no reason than greed
pellet stoves with boilers are more used but there is alternatives if you want to use them
id love a view like that stove above but rocket stove view is kinda poor even at the side so kinda pointless really good heating from very little wood used
sometimes you have to choose heat more than asthetics however id rather go down the boiler side of it and heat water into hot water tanks

I even built a rocket stove 2 times inside a stove just to try it out all it used was soft wood
it was brand new and just been fitted but im aware of how much heat they have
heres the softwood built up on a very first fire up and air is directed by a metal plate so it runs to the back and up the wood chimney the pic after is the flames whilst in use
the curved flame shows the full effect of the gas being pulled to the front
the stove was lit at 11am burn time 3 hrs and it heated an area of 5m wide x 10-15m it was still nice and toasty in there at 6pm the floor was concrete only the top above walls was insulated and the ceiling was insulated
i left both the baffle plates in the system as its hot so that means on the first angle baffle plate its at range of 1000f-1500f the second plate protects the stove at the front before it goes direct up the chimney
