just like the MSVA was brought in to stop folk strapping a v8 to an old iron bed frame and zooming off down the road.
Damn! That's another one of my projects killed stone dead.

Not so stupid when you do a bit of research and discover how many people have been damaged or killed because the heating device or flues which were not installed to a safe standard i.e. a carbon dioxide emission, flues ten inches from a bathroom or bedroom window or a flue 12 inches below a plastic roof line .And they’re going to do what? Lovingly install the flue, hug a couple of trees on the grounds on the way into the house, say a prayer to the environment on their way out.
It’s a wood burner, it spews out smoke, it’s sh-t for the environment, but it reduces your Octopus energy bill by several hundreds of pounds per month.
I fitted mine myself, all done very nicely, no building control involved, good SS flue, when I come to sell the house it can sit in the garage for the next owner to decide if it’s in line with their environmental Karma, ….. Honestly having to get paperwork done to fit a heating device, what a stupid society we live in these days.
It's great to hear of someone having their coal /wood chimney swept & checked over every year . A lot of people don't do it and if a fire results and they cannot give proof of a proper sweep cleaning it in the previous years the insurers will say the insurance is invalid ..but then lots of people don't have insurances for their home or cars etc.As a (former) gas safe engineer you would likely think I'd be all for Hetas and the regulations?
You would be wrong
Before Hetas I had a good sideline in log burners, usually where I had removed a back boiler or something
Decided I wasn't interested in another set of qualifications and assessments so stopped fitting them, when the clean burn rules came out I was glad I had
One of my first log burners is still in regular use, 20 years later
The sweep tells her every year "I wish more were fitted like this one"
I found this enjoyable to watch, and some of you probably will also.Trouble is the bodge crews breed , so there will never ever be a shortage of them .fair commentbut as soon as all the bodger crew have burnt themselves to a crisp or turned there lips blue that leaves the clever ones to be left alone and crack on living our lives

It often seems they tend to increase as the level of child benefit expands to cover more than two kids & the economy tanks .and as long as people go for the cheap quote, they will end up working on other peoples houses,Trouble is the bodge crews breed , so there will never ever be a shortage of them .
