Mmmm, not good in my experience - you need a springy steel handle, long enough to get behind it. Borrow or buy a proper scraper.I have in the past ground an old file for scraping. Not perfect but worked.
Would I need a bevelled straight edge like in?You'd be best off scraping in the cross-slide and true it up, but be prepared for a hard slog if doing it all by hand. You'll also need a bevel edge straight edge and DTI or similar
