(Properly dressed the cut end too).

My wallet must be water tight then . I have more than two dozen bits of threaded metal like that in all sorts of sizes . For me having a small lathe they also come in handy for turning down into rods & pins etc or studs with a different thread size of form on the other end.

Aluminium horse , full of sand , very heavy ! I put a lump of aluminium inside the leg and welded the three together 110 amps ac tig

SWMBO will insist on buying the cheapest, crapest garden furniture, always has. On the two seater love seat thing, one of the pivots just rotted away.

Found a bit of thick walled steel tube, chromed for some reason. Flap disc'd that off. Step drill came in handy to open the jagged hole out to 14mm.

The other side was even worse. The original metal is just paper thin:

Blobbed it with the mig and some 0.6mm wire. Had to make up the gaps with weld and try and not make more. The Ginour mask screen was flashing so much I couldn't stop it. Figuring it was the mask I swapped to the IFL one. Not much different. Must be strong sunlight triggering it? Thought I was going to have a fit/vomit!

Flap disc, zinc paint, new bolt 10mm longer:

It's not pretty, it'll carry on rotting from the inside out I'm sure. I've cut a bit of tube ready for the other side...

A neighbour asked if I could look at his old gas barbecue. It had stopping light on 3 burners, and 1 was snapped. I agreed to have a go, so we rolled it over the road into my garage and I said I'd have a look over the next few days.
Well, I couldn't resist a quick look this evening, so I pulled a rusty greasy cover back, pulled out one of the igniter jets, found it full of spider webs. Blew all four out, cut a piece of tube to sleeve inside the broken burner, stuffed the greasy rusty bits back together, and ....



I'm not sure if that's exactly what it should burn like, but I'll check when I see the owner.

Honest to God I was wishing I was one of those people who could weld Stanley or razor blades together.

Today, I fixed the "reaction rod" or whatever it is, on a mate's 3-ton mini digger grab.
Apparently, it had been fixed before, but this time it had completely let go.
Only thing I had to go on was the bush and the remains of what it was seated in, the rest of that end had disappeared.

Made a new end out of some 3 inch tie bar I have.
I made the hole off centre to see if it would help with the fit.



Then cut to fit.



Clamped to a piece of box to see if I could keep it reasonably straight.



Then tig welded it fully up.





Cleaned it up, took the rough out of the centre with a burr then finished it off with a file.
Drilled and tapped for a grease nopple and pressed the steel bush back in.



I left plenty of meat on it with the intention of grinding the excess off but didn't bother in the end.



Tried it out and it all seems to work as it should.
We will see how long it lasts this time.

@8ob is it worth trying to fix these or, if it's likely to break again should I just tell him to get a new one?

Depends if its the right grab for the machine, most small grabs are designed to hang off a rotator. The rotator and its scope are a significant factor. with a rotator if the log isn't picked up exactly in the middle the heavy end will swing down and the clamping on the jaws remains the same. On a fixed grab hitch( no rotator) lifting an unbalanced log the leverage on the jaws goes up massively, machine clamps the load on the floor no problem, then the machine lifts the load and its like a huge lever bar trying to prise the jaws back open. Same happens if the rotator if fitted has limiting stops that are restrictive,

Thanks @8ob that makes sense.

It's on a rotator that can rotate continuously, but as I'm sure you'll know the lads using it will be doing their best to try and break it.
I suppose if this doesn't break the next weakest thing will.
I'll get him to talk to the drivers, you never know, they might even listen.

Today I fixed the dynamo belt guard from a Ford 5000 tractor.



Quick blast to clean it up.



Then welded the cracks up.



Looks dog rough but a quick grind and re-blast helps the look of it.



By no means perfect but it's just a tractor after all.
Tomorrow I will make it blue again.

This hammer came my way the other day.
Please note the following, the whire clean new wood at the head end. Plus the tack at the other.

The tack was mid point of a split. This was clearing expanding as the tack was rusting
The head end means it was loose and some one had dressed it back.
So a new shaft would be needed.

Enter a new Norbert, was named john. He liked the hammer and asked if I could fix it if he supplied the parts and supplied some beer tokens.

New shaft, new hamoe made wedges and the casting bures removed.

Yes, I do not like the painted shade either,

This 33ft tape measure was aquired to try out new methods of restoring them. As in MIS we have a few.

33feet or:

50 poles, chains or?

The brass fittings were removed, cleaned and bent straight.

Spiders love to be near a tiny micro seepage of methane or the additive that makes bottled gas smell it's the first immediate action to clean the tubes out if the device has been stored for a few months .

It even fits ok.

Managed to finally free up this old beast from the decades of dried grease in the internals. Few new screws and a splash of oil and it runs ok. Just need to sort a handpiece and the flex connection near the top and find a willing volunteer.
