Just fixed this cast iron machine part , old mill apparently, 2 breaks , vee on the inside first , fit together and a bit of pre-heat weld up with LINC Cast31 NiFe 2.5 Rod about 85 amps , little bit of peening , then vee out the outside breaks and weld again , peening marks can be seen all over the welds , cooling down slowly now , hope it doesn't crack again !

The little Leyland has to work its socks off with the baler so I like to do a little service before hand, already done an oil change so fuel filter next

I'm sure some of you have seen my rants about rubbish diagnostics.
This truck exhaust was a prime example.
Intermittent SCR efficiency faults. Had been in another workshop twice where they'd played some rather expensive parts darts.
First step of diagnostics, perform a visual check.
Heat shield on the underside bent up, which raised the first flag. Unbolt it, and find this dent.
The photos are taken with the complete exhaust aftertreatment unit removed and sat upside down, but exhaust gases come in top right of the photo, through the oxidisation cat, then through the DPF, before passing left to right along the dented pipe, before passing back right to left through the SCR catalyst.
It's removed in the photo, but the AdBlu injector bolts on the left hand side, so it injects down the centre of the pipe with the dent, giving the gases/urea a chance to be well mixed before they hit the catalyst.
Quick look with a bore scope showed a white streak up the dented section, where the AdBlu had been hitting the tube. It would probably be OK when really hot and good gas flow, but lower temperatures with slower gas flow were probably causing poor/delayed mixing resulting in poor catalysing.
So a couple hours later, with entire exhaust unit removed and turned upside down to get access with a slide hammer, and the pipe no longer has a distinct dent.
Whole lot back on, and road test showed all NOx values doing what they should, so it'll be back out tomorrow seeing what the drivers can destroy next.

I’ll send you a pic of the one I made. It’s pretty much the same but There’s a slice of 300x200 ish box at each end and some 16mm plate as the uprights where you’ve threaded rod. Works well. Design blatantly stolen from someone else
I wouldn’t want to be riding about with it in a van though! Lives in a workshop

"Fixed" this corner of the workbench this morning, the hammers still aren't great tbh but better than they were. The wooden toolbox used to sit to the right of the vice and just was always in the way, so I made a cleat for the back from flat and it now sits on the slat wall panel behind. Also sorted the threaded bar by size as it was a mess, I don't use much bzp stuff, more stainless but that's elsewhere.
It often feels like wasted time but workshop infrastructure work makes life so much easier once it's done.
Anyone got any decent hammer storage ideas?!

Whilst waiting for the rain to stop in anticipation for baling the hay FFS I suddenly remembered it ate part of itself last year, this plate stops too much rubbish being poked in and around the knotters by the chamber packing arm
Its a pretty thick old chunk but using my finest painless dent removal technique it came out good!
And in with some proper metric fasteners not them funny BswAfWhitworth things that you can never find a spanner to fit

Most blacksmiths just have two lengths of angle spaced for the handles
Black bear forge had a video on making one and I think torbjorn Ahan (sp?) did too

I found two parallel rails, so that you can drop the handle between them, but the head rests on them, a simple solution.

Fixed the little Kubota overheating problem. Never been great and with a bigger battery it was even worse. Pulled the battery out of the bonnet and fixed, no more overheating. Just need to make a bracket and cover for it now. Slots beautifully between the legs as if it was made for it.

Finally finished building my new section of Fence. Taken ages cos a) I'm not very good at it, and b) I went OTT by routing overlaps (& I've pretty much zero idea about a Router).
When I say finished... I might add some horizontal kick-boards to cover the blocks.

Now I consider myself an artiste with a hammer . . . but why so many? For when you put one down and can't remember where? When you lend 'em out?
I have a lump hammer, a big ball pein, a small ball pein, a claw hammer, chipping hammer and a sledge. Can't remember being caught short for want of a suitable hammer . . .
