I applied fire and violence. This was about half way through.

I applied more fire and violence but the photos are much a muchness.

Back on the machine and back to work. Under an hour.

Edit. Customer was actually keen to apply fire and violence to the operator as that cover panel is £400!

That's a neat repair. I probably would have resorted to cutting the damage out and tacking three new bits in

Cheers Brad. It helped that the guy said what he’d done, so I was able to work out the rough direction it got pushed then sort of reverse that to get it back out.

It was a gamble as they needed it back. Plan B was cut it out etc

Today was Lichfield Repair Café, we were a bit short on volunteers, Holidays and prior commitments. I sharpened 6 garden shears, ( why people let them get that blunt is beyond me) an Aldi compressor. ( owner had seat the outlet pressure wrong and didn't know how to set it) Dyson Vacuum, (two filters on it, the instructions only tell you how to replace one of them. There is a hidden screw somewhere that I, and the owner couldn't find) I have a fancy barstool with pedals on it (?) one needs welding back on. And lastly, If you haven't all fell asleep yet, A walking stick that a decorative wolfs head had fallen off. They are both in my workshop to fix tomorrow.

The trailer bought circa 1975 by my father failed it's WOF (MOT to the Poms). To much wear in the spring eye. It was a bit loose, but must have been like that for a long time.
It hasn't been used much in the last few years since I bought a tip truck, but a freind wanted it for a long road trip, so needed to be legal and done straight away. Turned up a bush and pushed into place, new through bolt and back on the road in half an hour.

Timely discussion, as I just fixed our small window-mount air conditioner yesterday (it just needed the filter to be cleaned). However, we only use it two or three days each year, since we're spoiled by the great summer weather here in Maine. We have some wildly disparate climate areas here in the US, and we've lived in some of the hottest parts of the Southwest, but we've been in Maine at the northeast corner of the country for over 15 years now, and IMHO summer weather doesn't get much better. Here are some summer averages for Brunswick, Maine, rounded off to the nearest degree:

My Aunt lives in Framlingham Mass. But she has a property on kezar Lake I've been a couple of times over the years and the weather has been glorious. Puts me in mind of the summers of my youth over here. Stunning part of the world around there you are very fortunate.

Thanks, @magnet, we like it here a lot. Your aunt picked a great location for her place on Kezar Lake. We're located in coastal Maine, but we get up to the Kezar Lake area in western Maine and into the White Mountains of New Hampshire once in a while. By the way, we've been to England, Scotland, and Wales a couple of times, and we had very nice weather for the duration of both trips (as I recall, it only rained once), but the UK countryside is beautiful, even in the rain.

Yeah kezar lake is magnificent my uncles father opened that area up to tourism many years back he was the Brown of the famous brown's camps in that area.
I've been to Cape Cod in Maine that was the first time i had ever swam in a sea that felt warm. I remember also missing a guided boat tour and being disappointed until we found this old fella with a beat up old speed boat that took us out. It was the fastest i had ever been on the water and he even let me drive it. Unforgetable for a 12 year old..........Happy dayz

So having diagnosed a faulty diesel level sensor on my Project 8/9 JCB 3CX the spare arrived this morning. All back working but I thought that I'd pull the old one apart and see what had failed.

The float operates an arm that moves a bronze wiper in an arc across a flat coil of nichrome wire wound on a shaped former to give the correct scale shape. Resistance varies as per picture below. The nichrome wire had broken close to the riveted terminal post. Easy fix - drill out the rivet, replace with nut and bolt with the wire suitable trapped below its head. Tested, bagged up and now a 'shelf spare'

Its scarey when you look under some motors and see what the towbar is attached to, mainly rust on a lot of them!

I doesnt matter how many outside taps you have they never seem to be in the right place or the hose just not long enough, so todays quickie was to stick an outside tap on this unused main in one of the outbuildings except the size of the thread was like nothing I had in stock, luckily I had an alkathene to 15mm copper stop tap and pipe inserts left over from my house bashing days, a bit of copper and a nice flush backplate, just got to find a bib tap now...

This Mamod TE1 came my way the other day.

The engine was is a poor state. But complete.

Everything was over painted.

This is a engine that spans the nut and bolt construction to rivets. But it is forward only. But fitted with a throttle on the exhaust pipe.
Plus it has the very hard to find spring clip holding the canopy in place.

This gave me hope. Meths was lifting the old paint.
Getting the rear wheels of the axil needed a puller.

In Bits.

The few new items.
Axil spring, rivets holding the assembly together.
What you see is the original paint, under the paint job it arrived with.

Almost there. I am rebuilding the whistle.

It has been steamed. It needs a few tweeks to the piston assembly, they always do after a rebuild.
