The lever thing is a collet closer. The lever mounts to the bar arangement fixed to the lathe. The large round bit on the rear end of the draw tube has a spring and a bearing. Next to the collets in the pic you have a flanged taper adapter that goes in the spindle taper and the collets fit in the adapter then the tube screws onto the collet, the spring loaded system holds the collet shut and you pull the lever to open it against the spring. You can insert parts into the collet with the machine running or stopped.

You can safely clean up that collet adapter and the collets with a wire wheel they are hardened and will take to it well.

Sounds like it could be quite useful , if not I wonder if they will fit anything else

That manual is gold dust. The beginning is all words, but if you persevere, the diagrams start about page 84 and will help a lot.

I would suggest you print out the diagrams at A3 size as they are esier to read.

The one on p.84 is the test calibration for the machine to which the original manual belonged. You can compare with the same diagram in Schlessinger.

On page 109, it gives the specification for the change gears, standard 1.25 module. The next page has an end view of the travelling stready, so if you print that page out and blow it up on a copier until the distance between the shears matches that of the machine, you have a perfect 1:1 pattern to make a reproduction.

The collet systems are shown on pages 113, 118 and 119. I think yours is on page 118. Page 113 is a simple, drawbar version; page 119 looks like a pneumatic closer.

Page 121 shows what you have identified as a bed stop. Screwcutting chart page 133.

Thank god for the internet, one of the first things i did was hunt down a manual luckily someone in the states found one and posted it . They seam to be quite common in eastern Europe lots of videos on youtube with them. There is a full set of decals im missing on ebay but the seller is in Russia so might not risk that after today

Im glad its something standard as I will need to source some to make up the set for it, now i need to find out if the change gears from a more common lathe in the UK will fit or could be modified

There is also a post form 2018 from someone saying they have documents for the machine in French.

E3N-01 Kart lathe change gears

I have recently aquired an E3N-01 lathe. Immaculate shape,tight screws and ways look brand new under slight surface rust from sitting. Unfortunately the machine came with only the metric change gears set up. And help finding what looks to be only one change gear needed for American threading...

OK, another one...

Look at 2:52 in this video:

The carriage is moving under power and the handwheel is not rotating. I think he has it in screwcutting mode rather than power traverse. I have never seen that before. It must mean that the handwheel pinion is disengaged from the rack on the bed.

Also, the graduated carriage handwheel is a little unusual as it means you have to use circular pitch gears to give meaningful graduations.

My Monarch has that feature, you pull a plunger in the centre of the handwheel to disconnect it from the drive.

Decided to clean up the drills just to see how bad the rust was and they came up ok

Some of the flutes a bit worn but probably chucked around without care most of there lives, cutting edges look good no chips. ive used worse and been ok



Knurler was next , cleaned up on wire wheel in bench grinder. Has hit a chuck at some point but no damage on the ones i have. All the wheels look good and are free

So I decided to strip the 4 jaw down next as main body going in electrolysis tank. Tried one jaw and it cleaned up good so hopefully chuck should too

My Holbrook has the same, it's not uncommon on toolroom lathes and it's to prevent the unbalanced weight of the handwheel affecting the feed or threadcutting pitch.
