Apparently nicked cars are often parked up somewhere like this for a day or two by the thieves in case the stolen car has a tracker fitted. It's a shame that whoever spotted the Capri wasn't aware that it was stolen at the time.

They do that with motorbikes and diggers too. Like you say what a bugger it wasn’t known by who reported it.

Narrows down the area or at least points a direction of travel.

There’s plenty of caravan sites on that road too

"The police sent me a letter saying there is insufficient evidence and they have closed the case as of 13/09/21.

the vehicle reg that took the van is HT15 CYW white Renault Trafic. Could be a copied plate. Comes up as mot'd. Any more help would be great"

Problem is, there is no evidence. unfortunately evidence is just that. It has to be factual. When my mate got turned over for £20k there was a blue hilux surf on the cctv with its plate covered. He’d seen a similar vehicle going in and out of the local pikey site but it’s not ‘evidence’. One blue surf is much the same as another without a registration mark. As it happens the pikeys got caught nicking someone else’s gear and coughed to my mates but it was long gone.

I feel for the lad but a probably cloned plate on a van and that’s it. I’m assuming (hopefully correctly) that they have made enquiries with the keeper of that registration number? You can ask for more explanation of what they have done and if that fails to satisfy then take it to the PCC.

I will add that Essex were one of the worst forces we dealt with and that’s as another force. They had a brainwave of reducing reported crime by making themselves uncontatable at one point.

The letter probably said that if further info came to light they would reopen the case or similar I would think. If it’s likely that the complainant will be compensated by insurance then that can influence the outcome. Not brilliant but it is what it is.

Stats. That was the driver behind Essex. They had high ‘reported crime’ rates. How do you lower reported crime without costing any money? Make it impossible to report.

Reported crime fell overnight.

Disgraceful really. They are not a good force. I have personal experience from the job I was which I will not go into on here about how shocking they are.

As long as something rolls freely it’s not that hard to move it in neutral as we all know.

There are always quads getting nicked in the highlands wife follows the police page so we see a lot.

Part of the problem is they don't come down hard enough.
Saw a police program with 7 or more cars surrounding a lorry. Bemoaning the fact despite it saying follow us off the motorway they had no way of stopping the HGV despite it being a stolen vehicle on cloned plates.

Lots. How would a firearms unit stop a HGV? Don’t say shoot the tyres please! That’s for Hollywood. Use of force is subject to home office guidance and certain criteria being met.

Most forces carry a stinger for a HGV but they are no good on cars as well as being bloody bulky and hard to deploy so they don’t have lots of them. As Sod’s law dictates, whichever vehicle has the thing is the wrong end of the county….

Not seen that clip and not pursuit advisor but I would say 7 cars suggest that it is contained in a way it can’t hurt any public and the thing will either run out of fuel or whatever eventually. Once that many units and air support are involved it’s over. Just gets protracted when the bad guys try to buy time to work out what to do next.

Pursuits are the no1 hate of any traffic officers. Watch any of these interceptor programs. They will all say that there are so many variables where people can get hurt which is why they try to bring it to an early conclusion

Exactly. Simple to shoot the tyres out. Motorway was running a rolling block.
They did use a stinger in the end.
But I was not suggesting shooting the tyres but a bullet in the drivers head would save the tax payers a lot of money. To be honest I am sick of the pandering to criminals.
Home office guidance is from Muppets that's fairly obvious, just look at reshuffle. LolI have long since been in favour of innocent till proven guilty but an HGV in the wrong hands has more potential than a sword in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Time after time you see the crime , you see who's done it and they are out the next night doing the same. It needs to stop.
