[Newlands]

Marihøna (Norwegian for 'ladybird') is a William Atkins 'Vixen' design, built in Norway, 1957, and fitted out in Bermuda.
She has a Littlehampton connection though; it's the first harbour where she first touched English soil, after a very rough maiden transatlantic crossing in 1960.
There are a few others kicking around the planet, maybe eight yachts built to this design, mostly in the USA but one in NZ.
Thanks for your interest, I could drone on for days without 'repetition, deviation or hesitation' about these vessels but must remind myself this is a welding forum..

Yes. Cant find the remains of insert. I might try some tig practise to repair the blade.

Must be the weather, I destroyed one end of my Iscar blade a few days ago. I think it parts off so well I got a bit too relaxed. Maybe was running a bit out of alignment or the insert got a bit blunt. Either way it suddenly did the crunch special and the insert took a chunk of blade with it.

Finished some painted handrail spindles for a local joiner and made a couple of bearing press sleeves for Lewis
Would have finished the swing jib but unfortunately my hydraulic ram is single acting even if it has fittings for double acting, and I don't trust the end seals enough to drill it and make it double acting so on the hunt for another ram

Not oft I use one, but tired of searching for something to use, when I need one. Tip is a length of silver steel, interference fit. Not heat treated. I'll see how it fares first. 4½" long, tip to tail.

Yes, was a used one I got with the other end already damaged. First few times I couldnt get it working but last few weeks it has worked well.

2nd attempt at a M14 x1.5 thread for checking the two nuts Im about to make. Measures ok but nut was tight, so somethings a bit out. Used a needle file to fix it. Used silver steel as I might harden it and grind it as a tap after.

Bored out this 30mm bar to be a tool post nut. 28mm bore, 8mm deep to keep swarf out of the thrust bearings. Threading tomorrow.

I was given this Thor hammer the other day.



Replacements heads are available, but can be a pain to fit.

So I brought this.



That will help make new heads.



Raiding my rubbish pile, had me some lead.( I had in total 6kg of lead)




The copper is glued onto the head, to act as a mould,



Melting the lead, the pot was bent to allow an easy pour.



First head cast.
The shrinkage meant that the lead did not stick the copper.



Finished.

I would never buy a second hand blade as you only get a finite time out of blades, they stretch the pockets and don't hold the insert securely and the first sign is you start to get chatter when parting, that is telling you to swap ends or get a new blade.

IGBT fails.
Pita to get it out of the board. One diode on driver side shorts also.

I know that I got a replacement but can’t find it in the deep of dirt. Shipping from China will be faster than discovering it here…

I made a machine dolly type platform to shift the lathe etc
Using what was to hand I am quite pleased as it not only works it didn't cost a penny!
The machines will be strapped down when they are moved but as proof of concept, the lathe fitted and wheels around
