Yes, they are about 6,5€/kg now on scrap.
Sweared to myself to not buying any stuff from EWM because they caused problems every time.
But this unit seems to be ok.
First inverter are really tricky and expensive on spares.
Got 5 of them here now.

Having got bored with carp electronic scales that don't read the same weight twice, or the battery box is loose, or eats batteries, I went old school for weighing out malt in the brewery.
The scales were last use in anger in a hardware shop in Barton on Humber for weighing out nails and screws. The small weight on a string was for weighing panel pins. The shop was owned by the father of the lady who sold them to me, she told me that she was weighed in the scales not long after she was born. Her dad is in his 80s now and consented for them to be sold, she seemed happy that they were going to be used. Probably better than them turning up on Etsy with a dodgy gold paint job.
They came with a choice of metric or imperial weights, I went for metric as all my recipes are in kilos.
The pan looks like it will hold about 3kg of malt at a time which is well under the 20Ib limit
There's a little bit of flaky rust on them which I will remove gently then give them a coat of BLO or similar. A penny stuck on with a bit of blutack to calibrate and its time to get brewing. A cooking bitter next me thinks, I only seem to have rocket fuel left.
Any scale experts around? I would be interested to find out how old purely out of curiosity. I did a quick search on google images, Graces Guide etc. Unfortunately the Avery Museum closed in 2015 after 90 years. I'm guessing they are probably pre-WW2 from the style, but could be wrong. I may search a bit harder next time I'm bored, probably on a long conference call

Today I got a letter from the owner of the industrial estate that my workshop is on. They're terminating my rental lease just before Christmas. Chatting to the security guard, a bunch of other people on the estate have had the same letter.
Glad they gave me a decent amount of notice, at least!

Nice purchase, drink the tinned IPA quickly though I find it gets a bit of a "tinny" taste if it hangs about too long
