I submitted my driving licence paperwork in Feb last year, a year to the day later all returned, saying wait.
Various options, carte de sejour, naturalization etc. With this virus thing everything can wait, just interested to see what others are doing...

Electrical question folks.
Does anyone know the regs regarding have a metal box consumer unit instead of a plastic one?
It's a proper metal consumer unit, like you get in workshops, but not houses?
To go in the house, well back shed, 3ph and all.
Thanks.
When I first got here, I picked up a book on the local regs from Mr. Bricolage. Can't put my finger on it right now, but don't think there is anything about 3 ph. There is a much thicker up to date guide, might be worth getting that.Electrical question folks.

depends, if you'fe following the "consuel" or not, if you are, then the regs define that the house needs a GTL " Gaine Technique Logement", which is basically a consumer unit (and all the telecomms interconnections) on top of a floor to ceiling trunking, so would be plastic as far as I can see. Regs are also pretty specific on where it can be installed, not in kitchens, maximum distance from the incomer meter box, height from the floor etc.... I'll check with my sparky mate tommorrow to confirm.
that said when I did mine for the workshop 3phase, I had a whole new line installed so the consuel was obligatory to get the power on, so to avoid rsing about with the paperwork I just got the local sparks to put it in, and they've used a metal box consumer unit, so probably ok for an outbuilding or workshop, but I'd be wary of using it for a house...

I have some friends who live in the Limousin area, in a bakers oven. Well, they bought the land with the great big bread oven on it, and basically extended and built it into a cracking little bungalow.
They showed me their consumer unit one day, with about fifty breakers on it. Apparently every socket, every light etc, has to have its on wires running back to the CU, with it’s own breaker.
Sounds clever, in theory, but even in their little one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen house there was miles of wire.
It's not quite that bad. You're allowed 6 or 8 sockets (can't remember exactly) per 20A spur/MCB, and a slightly smaller number of lights per 16A spur/MCB. But as MCKDAVID says, certain appliances with a heavier current draw (electric cooker, washing machine, immersion heater etc.) require a dedicated spur/MCB. Can't really argue with that.I have some friends who live in the Limousin area, in a bakers oven.
