Totally agree, the micky-mouse 2-pin euro arrangement is pathetic. I presume the French rule for spurs instead of ring mains results from un-fused plugs.

US plugs are much the same, as is every country in the far east I have lived in. Despite the tentacle like grip the British Empire had on the world for centuries our pluggage doesn’t seem to have spread very well.

we have a local builders here called Garbage et fils. Father and son garbage, probably hasn't had many calls from brits....

For quite a while, French sockets have been child proofed, but not as good in action as the UK. Quite often, one has to wriggle the plug to deflect the detents that cover the holes. As for fuses, some of our older, but still good, switches and sockets have fuses incorporated. Only low amps sockets, like 5amp. and small pins too.

Gréât, we haven’t got one within 45 mins of here, mind you I haven’t got a compressor anyway! That said, the Hydrovane my brother in law gave me is still sat in my dad’s barn, if only I could get to the UK...
