This guy thinks he knows it all, but 99.99% of the time it is BS and taken from the WWW.

This is a classic example.

This was set up at my place to show what was wrong.

Paraffin Blow lamps are very common, 60% are not worth repairing but look good to look at. The other 40% are worth spending time and funds to get them going. Service parts are cheep.
I always replace all seals, they are in the kit.

This person only replaced the cup washer in the pump and "Declared it was now fit for use."

First use, he primed it, pumped it up and after it was burning nicely the Pump to tank washer failed. Allowing paraffin vapour to escape with the resulting fire.

I now have to get a new CO2 extinguisher, as it was sued to make the torch safe in MIS.

When it all had calmed down and new coffee made, our expert was heard to say.

It had to be cheep parts from china, he could not made that mistake.

Just had an interesting coffee break, with the MIS chairperson and the Membership register person.

I have pointed out that I had to replace the used CO2, at the cost to the MIS.
I explained to them why it had to be replaced.
Unlike one member who insisted it would be ok to use.

Plus no "hot works request had been made, so the blow torch should not of been in use.

This means the member has broken our H&S rules, to the cost of the MIS and the session leader was not enforcing the rules.
Both breaches of the membership T&C.

With luck some action will be taken.

Today I made a cock-up.

The wife and kids have been away since Friday camping near Wells while I work, look after the dog and chickens and do a bit of DIY on the kitchen.

All was going well. I had a brew day on Saturday and in between had built 5 panel doors for the new kitchen. Today was fitting day. Four went grand, the last one, not so grand.

I measured twice, and cut once, but still cocked it up. I can only assume I added the 4mm of clearance (2mm either side) rather than take it off as the door is 8mm too wide.

I can't just take 4mm off each side, it would look stupid as the stiles are only 50mm. So I'll cut the stile just near the joint, hope the floating panel is floating and not stuck with glue squeezed out from gluing the frame, cut the rails and panel to size and make a new stile and mortices.

The missus is back tomorrow, the plan was to oil the doors tonight so it will be dry tomorrow afternoon. It will have to wait, time for a beer.

I had to cut open this YZ400 exhaust up to find out why it didn’t want to rev out. It looks like a mouse has been having a good time in there but it’s all back to standard now.

Haha, no the keys are taken out when ever it's parked up so no string involved.

Finally managed to meet up with my mate who picked up the forks from @vwmark on Sunday and exchange them for the promised venison.

As I am meant to have the missing 1/2 tonne of steel from my last order delivered today I worked until about the early hours of the morning quickly knocking this up. Surprised at how well it went considering the welder jammed, couldn't find my 0.8mm wire, all my hole saws were too big (for the quick hitch pins) the plasma was just beyond it's limit on 20mm and I ran out of gas.

Finished it off this morning by practicing some stick welding (why is it whenever I'm learning a new process I do it on something that takes huge forces?).

Little test load of a bulk-bag of gravel / motar mix - nothing broke so should suffice for the moment.

You've just about covered all the possibilities there, so you should be clear of 'problems' for at least a week...

Did nothing today, day off. Just fitted a fore sight and threaded the barrel for a moderator:

A chap came in needing a quick ramp for a wheelchair to get over a threshhold, treadplate channels were from another job and were in in the odds n sods dept, a bit of ally channel and a bit of flat bar, a few pop rivets and job done, not the poshest things I've ever made but 15minutes start to finish probably amongst the quickest.

The first of the engine stands I’ve been building got a few good coats of satin black today.

Between coats I polished the lips and laced up the rear wheel for my Suzuki. I’ve got the front to do tomorrow and then I can finish the rest of the mods.

The antique lathe died when I thought it had dragged some swarf into the open end of the equally old 1/3 hp open ended motor .
The new motor could not be mounted on the original framework

So I purchased an 8x8x 1/2" thick slab of aluminium to make a converter plate because the footprint of the old motor and it's mounting bracket were way over size and out of alignment for the new motor to have the pulley's in the right alignment for the drive belt & overhead gear pullies to line up .
I did a paper drawing first third drawing seemed to work in my minds eye . blued the alu plate let it dry then proceeded to mark ot out on a slab of polished granite using dividers , odd leg calipers and a scribing block & 12 " rule as the lathe is so old it was made in precise imperial measurements 1/16 , 1/8 . 1/4 etc etc

Duly scribed up & rechecked before I dot punched the cross over points I high lighted them in a circle of black marker pen . Then punched them . it made it easy to cut out nine half round ended elongated mounting slots by hand ( no milling machine here ).
So it would sit on the original mounting bracket & have left to right movement then I drilled and tapped the plate for four 6mm studs to mount the motor on.

On setting up the plate on the mounting bracket it was Ok , but I realised too late I'd drilled the base holes of the motor studs 180 degree out . Waaaaaah! , a bit of warmth and the stud lock on the studs gave up .I re set the motor mounting studs, the belt pullies lined up 1/64 out Sorted that out this morning with a file then wired the motor back in to the starting set up .


It runs it's far faster than the original motor but as it is so quiet I suspect the fault on the old motor was there when I purchased it but that it hadn't failed till nearly ten years later .
