Didactylos was (or possibly still is, according to Thief of Time) one of the most notorious philosophers in Ephebe. Unlike most Ephebian philosophers, he did not spend his days lying around in the bath. Indeed, washing in general seemed to completely elude him. He did employ certain other philosophical trappings, such as living in a barrel and carrying a lamp with no oil (as he was blind) - a nicely metaphorical touch. He was the uncle of Urn.

His most famous piece of philosophy was the heretical tract De Chelonian Mobile, or "The Turtle Moves", which formed the basis of an underground movement in Omnia. However, Didactylos himself argued that it wasn't philosophy, as it was entirely factual. His other works include his theory on Life: "Things just happen, what the hell."

He features heavily in small gods.

It makes me happy to know that there is still another Pratchett left to read.

I've only managed to read "Shepherd's Crown" once - as it has the saddest two words I have ever read in a book:
"The End"

Haven't read his short stories.
Truckers diggers and wings were top notch.

Mk.2 is brass because it looks cool, it has nothing to do with running out of steel.

The knurl is much better this time, the tapped hole is blind so you can't see how wonky it is and I didn't cock up the counter bore.

The M3 screw needed its head reducing to fit, my chuck doesn't close that small and I don't have a back plate for my smaller chuck, so...

if the latter, it's actually a Granny Weatherwax novel, even though it's in the "tiffany aching" series. Worth a read.

Dodger is set in dickensian London.
And the Shepard's crown was excellent.

Just an aside, and sort of off-topic I know, but...

Reading does seem more immersive than watching a film, before it actually becomes compulsive - hopefully all the way to the end!

I'm reading "Earth Abides" by George R Stewart, at the moment, after not having read anything for years.

To bring it more on-topic, though - it's about the aftermath of a pandemic, where seemingly nearly everyone has died.
Not all of them, though - or there'd be no narrator - and no story!

The wheel looks a bit small, as if it might topple with too much side-ways movement.

I'm working on some coal forges. I want a side blast design with water jacket (for the tuyere) and I want it to be mobile enough for me to pull it ouside. With some advice from a smithing forum I drew up this hybrid design, welded steel firepot and steel top for a light and mobile design.

I also have a more traditional, but small forge (450x650mm) I was thinking the bottom could be lined with hollow fire bricks and a minimal amount of sand or bentonite clay used to shape the pit. In both cases I want a separate water tank instead of a traditional bosch.

This was set up at my place to show what was wrong.

Paraffin Blow lamps are very common, 60% are not worth repairing but look good to look at. The other 40% are worth spending time and funds to get them going. Service parts are cheep.
I always replace all seals, they are in the kit.

This person only replaced the cup washer in the pump and "Declared it was now fit for use."

First use, he primed it, pumped it up and after it was burning nicely the Pump to tank washer failed. Allowing paraffin vapour to escape with the resulting fire.

I now have to get a new CO2 extinguisher, as it was sued to make the torch safe in MIS.

When it all had calmed down and new coffee made, our expert was heard to say.

It had to be cheep parts from china, he could not made that mistake.

A rectum on legs.

30 minutes yesterday, a quick test and it was working.

All it took was a repair kit, we have a few a strip down and replace all seals, washers and that was it.



On this version all There is to change are
The Cup Washer in the pump.
The Non return seal in the pump (WWW is needed as there are many versions)
Pump to tank washer.
Filler cap seal.

A simple job.
By changing the cup washer, if there are metal washers and spacers, re-fit them as they are needed. he had allowed the full working pressure to be reached.
Thus the old and damaged filler seal and pump seal had failed.

They also now have a new 2kg CO2 extinguisher.
