don't forget "bidule".... machin, bidule, truc, etc, - whatsitsname, thingymybob whatsit etc.. useful little words if you can ask a basic question in french, such as "what is that", "what do you call that", "where is that" "where would I find that".....add "truc etc" at the end and all of a sudden you sound a wee bit more fluent...

planning permission for the velux, I agree. There might be regional variations, but I was told that basically anything that changes the "look" of the building needs authorisation. That said it might not be a "permis de construire" (planning permission) but might be a simple "declaration prealable" which is a heavily simplified version of the planning permission. For example I added a veranda to the house which was 19.9m², simply because under 20m² is a declaration prealable not a full permis de construire. The way I see it is, I prefer to ask first rather than get shafted afterwards. Those that think they won't pick up on it are dreaming, especially as a lot of changes are associated to your local taxes. Increasing the usable floor area by converting a loft for a good example, easy to slide that under the radar as it's not outwardly visible, but that increase your local tax which is based on floor area. Even if the planning guys don't pick up on it themselves, there's plenty of those who will report you. "denouncé".

Blimey, tough up in the Morbihan... Prob cos they are closely related to the Cornish ( I jest ) If you can't find gin, drink absinthe..that really clouds the brain.

Jerry, prob is, they only find they are wife beaters after the fact. Or do you just lock up every body who has any history? Wives are not great reporters of abuse..

Here, it is so quiet, that any abuse would be heard for quite a bit around. So far, our (few) neighbours are still in marital bliss, as are we.. less the cabin fever.

That was by the unions, Amazon got fined 1.1million, chicken feed for them. But they can still send out essentialas like food and health stuff.
While Amazon are not very worker sympathetic... The French unions are not the greatest help in keeping business working.
