Mind you there is nothing new under the sun, just a lot of ideas picked up and filed away, simmering away in the background until they are regurgitated when the right problem or application comes along.
First mig welder I ever used must be well over 25 years ago, was a "Tacker" (I think that's what they were called, had an orange fiberglass shell @MBB might know) they had a similar pivot.
And to bring right up to date, I might steal @Dr.Al idea on a recent thread of small narrow drawers because I still have a small space beside the plasma I need to use up. Don't know what (welding related) I can store in them so will think about it.

They were Tecker welders I have two rescued from the scrappies for £12 for the two but now both pcb boards are toast. My welding table is a thirty inch diameter lathe faceplate I used it to make made to measure wheelchairs for the NHS. All the tubes where Reynolds 531They had to be brazed as electric welding made the joints brittle weakening the chairs structure. I'll post a picture later.

On the home run now.
A couple of coats of Ford Tractor Blue certainly helps the look of it.
I wasn't trying to match the Rtech colours, I just got into the habit of painting most of my tools Ford Tractor Blue when I had some left over.



Let it dry overnight and then started assembly.

In the gap to the right of the plasma I made a pull out grinder stand from a tie rack I found laying about.
It's probably too light weight but I'll see if it lasts or gets used before beefing it up any more.

The grinder stand works quite well and it might help keep the leads tidy.
I will soon see if it's an ornament or a useful addition.

Also found a bit of spare space for a small fire extinguisher to live.



I think I'll change the extinguisher to a CO2 one.

Remaining things to do are, fit a lid to the top of the drawer to stop it filling up with grinding dust, make a cover for the plasma for when it's no being used and make proper handles but all in all it works well.

If I was making it again I would make the frame longer as the lower shelf is really too short for the plasma (I had to relocate the air regulator) and the on / off switch is hard to get to on the plasma (the on /off switches on both of the Rteck kit are on the back which I think is a major design flaw.)

What I wanted, was a compact cart that was only as tall as it needed to be and I think it ticks those boxes.
It's no top heavy and moves about nicely.

It looks really complicated in the first photo, like a piece of Concorde then you put the welder on it looks so simple! How did you do that without a top hat and a rabbit?

The paint is a great match too.

30" dia faceplate, Stand has 2 wheels . I move it around using a detachable lever with wheels, although its heavy its easy to move. Not really a welder stand more of a welding table.

My sealey mig welder was on wheels but my new R-tech doesn't so I need to get my welder trolley made. It's going to be based on a hospital trolley & house the mig & plasma cutter, gas bottles, rods & consumables, clamps plus a grinder rack. That ford blue is a good match so at least I know what colour to paint it!

It was made specifically to the dimensions of my EWM Phoenix 355 with separate wire feed unit so unlikely many would want one.

Have been going through the thread again for inspiration and found this post.

Considering many welding machines probably conform to similar shapes and dimensions you could create a slightly modified design which will be a fit most, or could create multiple slightly different versions designed to accommodate a broader range of welding plant. You could then offer the material and design for sale; shipping the material cut ready to assembly perhaps with keys in the design so they can be mocked up prior to welding.

Top job ,especially the top plate, might be an idea to put some plate vertical at the bottle end to stop those gauges getting smashed

I still need to do this, I've had some near misses.

Added a tool box for various bits and pieces.

But I've also been on forums where there's so many 'stickies' that you have to go to the second page to get past them! At least this forum has the 'watch' tool and I think that might be more useful; you get an alert whenever anyone adds anything.

This forum is so full of useful posts and information that I'm watching heaps of them!

True, i too have seen this happen, but most forums i visit do not have this problem.

It was just a suggestion to see if it was a good idea. It's up to the mods to decide which topic to make sticky and thus prevent a sprawl of sticky topics.

The watch tool is, indeed, very helpfull but only contains threads you already posted in.

Sticky topics are means to get them quickly noticabe for (new) members, like the rules for advertising in the for sale section.
