Starting A levels in DT, physics, biology and psychology in September.

I was racking my brain for the ANC gas taper name ..thanks …. National Pipe Thread some are tapered some are parallel threaded I have the figures for the parallel threads but not a tapered one .

They will be available on eBay that's for sure .

It'll be ¼ NPT for the US market. I have a bunch of Snap-on high flow fittings in that size. Not quite correct but close enough to BSPT that they work fine without damage or leaking.

Yes new grades, 9 = A* all change again I am still on O levels.
I think I got a B in Design Communication and Application, it was in the 80's long time ago.

Congratulations to your son, we need more students studying DT at this level.

Just a note of advice / caution / whatever - from my own experience. I did well at GCSE, A-level, then went away to university and earned a good degree, which I finished paying for at the age of around 32...

I took away a lot from the experience and it looks great on paper, but I frequently wonder whether pay / security wise I’d be in a similar or better position, had I gone into a trade or apprenticeship at 18. There seems to be a very fixed path in terms of career advice for students earning good results - ie., which university do you want to go to? No thought given to other options. I know guys younger than me earning more than I do in a trade who packed in school at GCSE level. Not that money is everything, but the kids choices at this stage mean a lot towards future happiness - don’t let anyone push him towards higher education if he’s unsure what he wants to do.

i HAVE THE SAME MACHINE its agreat bit of kit and very accurate when set up correctly, just check the toothed drive belt for the feed rollers they can wear and an expensive item for what they are.

We have the identical planer at the Men's Shed & it was eating belts until I fixed it by stripping & greasing the bearings in the drive gears. I managed to find a cheaper source than the £30 genuine Scheppach belt!
