Shogun Sport 2.5TD Fix and Buggify

A bit of an odd one, the head is flat to 0.1mm, (spec is 0.05-0.2mm) been over it with the phone on max magnification which shows even the smallest scratch and no cracks in the head, but all 4 inserts are cracked right through -

I am guessing there is coolant on the other side so there are the leaks

Ok not a sign of something else than a straight forward overheat then.

Probably buying a new bare head and gasket set https://www.milneroffroad.com/mitsu...service-items/k94-engine-cylinder-head-bare-0 . Never built a head up - anything likely to be particularly challenging?

EDIT - scrap that, I can buy a real used one off a breaker on ebay ready to go.

Some of those cheap Chinese heads are very poor. The Toyota Surf forum guys said to stay away from them if you can. I spent a bit extra (lot) of money on a new AMC one from Roughtrax. It's still going strong over 5 years later.

@dobbslc - agree, always prefer to buy used original if pos. Though Milner sell a lot of them so feel a bit safer that they would not risk selling junk

Lym engineering are a good company for heads too, all the guys on the forum use lym or milners or KS international

I am going to half agree The Chinese are very quick to retool and improve on a product, what was jaberwooky a year ago would have been sorted, the big problem is the amount of stock that's got to be moved on to mugs before the new gear is available. I wouldnt hesitate buying Chinese aftermarket from a decent retailer that will back/standby his products

Replacement head on it's way thanks to @123hotchef Hotchef (the forum comes through again!)
Milners were disappointing for a gasket set - would not ship by RM so wanted £15 and 2 days to ship it to the IOW. - Phoned Lymm engineering and bought a complete kit inc a Victor Reinz Head gasket (generally recommended as the best) for less and 24hr shipping.

BVits here tomorrow and should be running by the weekend... (famous last words..)

I was thinking this morning how few electronics there are on this engine, think there was only about 4 plugs the engine loom is tiny no common rail just a mechanical fuel pump - lots of vac lines though.
Pulled the scungy looking injectors that I am going to get cleaned and tested, also need a couple of glow pugs as 2 out of 4 are goosed.

Have a complete 2.5 4D56 engine, in fact Pajero sat on the driveway I keep meaning to take bits off, if you need anything?

@123hotchef just bough some Lucas ones,- bizarrely I searched for the NGK reference no. stamped on the plugs turned up nothing. Made sure I got the same dimensions though as there seem to be a couple of different ones for that engine ID.

While I think about it, as it's an island car I had better clean out the Extra Gunge Repository valve

I have a set of NGK glow plugs here, were in my truck for less than a year and set of used but good injectors. You can have the glow plugs FOC, pm me your address if you want them. If your interested in the injectors make me an offer
